Parent Educator

Since 1969, Community Family Life Services (CFLS) has provided children, families, and adults with the tools and resources needed to move beyond poverty and homelessness. CFLS supports survivors of domestic violence and women who are returning home following a period of incarceration by assisting them as they move into permanent self-sufficiency.

A. Summary Statement

Under the direction of the Program Manager, the parent educator provides parent education and family support to enhance the quality of parenting, increase parents’ understanding of child development and work with parents to help their child learn, grow and develop to meet their full potential.

Responsibilities

1. Facilitate parenting workshops; conduct individual sessions as needed to address unique

concerns and provide other family supports.

2. Assess family needs and identify parent/guardian goals for family. Work with families to develop a

plan towards meeting needs and achieving goals.

3. Refer families to resources (internally and externally) to support referrals on a regular basis.

4. Oversee the facilitation of the Children’s Nook on CFLS’ social media pages.

5. Attend workshops and conferences to increase knowledge of best practices for parent education.

6. Maintain clear, written case notes that document family needs and goals, resources provided to

address those needs/goals and family progress. Ensure all files are up to date with required

documents.

7. Other duties as assigned.

B. Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and two or more years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

C. Unique Job Requirements

Experience with low-income families and reentry women preferred
