The Reece School, a prestigious non-profit special education elementary school for children (ages 5 to 16) is seeking candidates for a Special Education Teacher position, who are creative and dedicated professionals with relevant classroom experience.
Position Summary: Position is responsible for the academic instruction and safety of children in the elementary classroom by performing the following duties:
Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Writes, organizes, and implements the classroom program including the following: recommends goals and objectives for Individual Education Plans (IEPs); schedules instructional programs; develops weekly lesson plans on each of the classroom instructional areas and develops group and individual social and emotional plans.
Participates in admissions process for students being considered for classroom, including review of intake material, input in pre-screening meetings, classroom evaluation during screening, and providing input during post-screening meetings.
Participates in professional development of teaching assistant including review of lessons plans and data.
Works collaboratively with Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Counselors and School Psychologists to ensure clinical needs of students are met and supported.
Records and retains anecdotal data/reports as determined by the Coordinator/Director.
Maintains accurate and current classroom records including attendance record, Individual Educational Plans (IEPs), lessons plans and student evaluation report cards.
Participates actively in the following meetings: room program, staff development , team, parental conferences, supervision with Coordinator and open school night.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Previous experience in special education or previous classroom experience required.
A Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university.
New York State (NYS) certification as a a special education teacher.
The ability to communicate and interact effectively with students, staff, and administrators.
The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong organizational and planning skills needed.
