Overview

The Council on Foreign Relations is looking for a video and storytelling professional to join our award-winning Digital team to produce and edit video segments, video series, and media pieces for our websites and various distribution channels.

 

The candidate will have experience producing, editing, and writing short video explainers, mini-documentaries, institutional video assets, and animated graphics in both linear and interactive storytelling formats.

 

This is an interim, three month assignment with the possibility of extension. 


The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Produce and edit video products (such as short explainers and mini-documentaries) for distribution on various CFR outlets and platforms
  • Work closely with content generators, such as CFR’s fellows, to develop engaging video that reflects their work
  • Use the video medium to explain foreign policy concepts and ideas to a general audience
  • Draft and edit scripts, interview questions, and substantive outlines, in collaboration with subject area experts
  • Produce short video assets for institutional needs as assigned
  • Research photo and footage needs, and work with vendors to negotiate licensing terms
  • Facilitate in-studio on-camera appearances and conduct interviews
  • Manage day-to-day production schedule, track, and communicate deliverables
  • Work with in-house A/V professionals and external vendors


Qualifications

  • 4+ years of professional experience in story producing, shooting, and editing
  • Strong storytelling skills, including an eye for a good narrative
  • Ability to synthesize complicated ideas/stories into understandable short form video
  • BA in film and TV production, journalism or a related field
  • Experience designing motion graphics or animation for video productions
  • Experience writing and/or editing scripts for video and interviews
  • Proficient in Adobe Premiere and After Effects
  • Proficiency with the full Adobe Creative Cloud suite including Audition, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Experience working in a highly collaborative, deadline-driven environment; ability to work periodic flexible hours
  • Proven interest in and knowledge of current foreign policy
