Summary. The Center for Social Impact Strategy (CSIS) at the University of Pennsylvania seeks 1-2 Program Coordinators to support the functions of the Center for Social Impact Strategy (CSIS). CSIS is a research and action organization based at the School of Social Policy and Practice. CSIS runs research initiatives, online education, residential programs, and campus events for individuals interested in social impact.

Successful candidates will offer program support for CSIS’ online, on-campus, and residential programs. For each project, the Program Coordinator will work among a team of CSIS staff, part-time instructors, student interns, and vendors that will work together to enact the educational mission of each project.

Their specific portfolio could include, depending on the incoming candidates’ strengths: 

A finance and administration focus: this portfolio would contribute to planning educational events of varying sizes, and tracking budgets and payments for all of the programs. This role will include administrative support duties such as booking travel; managing volunteers and student interns; and facilitating program applicants’ smooth transition between recruitment, application, decision, and student status.

A communications focus: this portfolio would contribute to CSIS’ social media and community outreach efforts. Recruitment activities could include responding to inquiries; managing our contact management system, and creatively developing engaging materials that draw in new students, build community, share information about educational opportunities as well as research outputs, and maintain relationships with partners and alumni.  

For either focus, the Program Coordinator will have a portfolio of projects that relate to online and residential educational programs, including but not limited to CSIS’s online Executive Programs and Impact House program, Doctoral Fellows program, Youth Program, and other educational initiatives. CSIS currently has five executive programs, lasting four-to-eight months each, includes 20-150 students, and ~$900,000 budget each; five off-site week-long residential programs featuring 18-30 students with roughly ~$100,000 budget each; and three massive open online classes featuring more than 10,000 learners each. We refer to each Impact House and Executive Program, or the development of an online class offering, as a project. Associated with each project is its own recruitment and admissions cycle and educational team, comprising part- and full-time instructional and logistics staff.

Program support will include all-hands-on-deck preparation and on-site logistics across all our programs. We operate as a team with high independence, high accountability to our students and to our mission, which is to train and equip a global community of world-changers with the tools they need to make a difference. This is a great position for a recent entrant to the workforce or to the social impact space, because it touches on a lot of job functions, and also exposes the staff person to many real-life social impact initiatives. We hope this position will be engaging, meaningful for the candidate, and well-supported by a great team.  

This is a 24-month position renewable based on availability of funding. Pay is $20-$36/hour. Work will be on campus at the University of Pennsylvania, based in Philadelphia, US. Occasional travel and evening/weekend work are required.
