Medical Billing Specialist

MANNA is a nonprofit organization in Philadelphia providing nutrition services to improve health for people with serious illnesses who need nourishment to heal. By providing medically tailored meals and nutrition education, we empower people to improve their health and quality of life.

The Medical Billing Specialist is a member of the Nutrition & Client Services team and is responsible for collecting payments, maintaining an accurate accounting of account balances, and assisting the Medical Billing Coordinator with insurance verification and claims submissions. Successful candidate should be detailed oriented, exceptional time management skills, have the ability to complete tasks with little supervision, must have extensive analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook.

SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE:

• Receives remittances for claims and updates internal spreadsheets
• Verifying patients’ insurance coverage
• Handling collections on unpaid accounts
• Managing the facility’s Accounts Receivable reports
• Manages the bill queue on a weekly basis
• Regularly updates cost and bad-debt reports and other related information
• Assisting the Medical Billing Coordinator with clerical work as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate Degree
• Certification in Medical Billing & Coding preferred
• 1-2 years of experience in a medical or healthcare office setting
• Above average critical thinking, communication and analytical skills
• Proficient with MS Office (Excel) and medical billing software (Revenue Performance)
• Successful completion of criminal background check and drug screening
