JVS IS A NON-PROFIT, NON-SECTARIAN AGENCY. OUR MISSION IS TO EMPOWER INDIVIDUALS FROM DIVERSE COMMUNITIES TO FIND EMPLOYMENT AND BUILD CAREERS, AND TO PARTNER WITH EMPLOYERS TO HIRE, DEVELOP AND RETAIN PRODUCTIVE WORKFORCES.

JVS provides a broad range of services including adult education, skills training, job readiness training, job placement and support, and access to post-secondary education. JVS assists employers in their search for well-qualified job applicants and their initiatives to upgrade the skills of their incumbent workforce.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Career Coach is responsible for providing career advancement services and ensuring long-term job retention, for a minimum of 2 years after participant enrolled at JVS. Participant job retention is integral to the success of the program and therefore this role must communicate effectively with all stakeholders. The Career Coach provides high quality career counseling, training, and job retention assistance to designated job seekers. With each participant, the Career Coach provides supportive services including improving resumes, advanced interview preparation, job search assistance and job coaching. The Career Coach initiates and sustains collaborative working relationships with a variety of businesses in the greater Boston area and beyond. This individual must have flexibility to travel between various cities in order to serve participants in the greater Boston area, North Shore and South Shore areas. This individual must have a strong knowledge of issues related to individuals with significant barriers to employment, as well as experience working with people from diverse backgrounds. The Career Coach is part of a larger JVS team that supports employment, training and education needs of clients and employers. This position is based at JVS’s main office and requires frequent travel to offsite locations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Accountability and results focused

  • Ensure participants retain and prosper in current employment or seek new employment when needed
  • Assist participants to apply for higher paying jobs with growth when needed
  • Ensure that 80% of caseload is working at a minimum of $13.00/hr or $1.50 more than previous position
  • Provide post-placement services including follow-up with job-seeker and employer to ensure participants are working two years after they enrolled in the program
  • Support program participants in post-employment goal achievement, career planning and educational services resulting in a minimum of two year job retention
  • Assist clients in obtaining skills upgrades, certificates or licenses resulting in job upgrades and career advancement
  • Provide case management and support services in order to remove participants barriers to employment
  • Develop materials and facilitate workshops on essential skills needed to enhance employability, retain employment, and advance in careers
  • Escort participants to job interviews and facilitate interview and hiring process, as needed
  • Actively develop new and maintain existing employer relationships that offer high wages and mutually beneficial long-term employment for both participants and employer partners
  • Track and meet program dashboard indicators (enrollments, placements, retention, etc.)

Build relationships, collaboration and teamwork

  • Support and promote the mission and philosophy of JVS both internally and outside the agency
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders (participants, employers, partner organizations, funders, etc.)
  • Work as part of a team, sharing job leads and collaborating on workshops, classes, group interviews and any other tasks as needed
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings and team-based projects
  • Provide assistance to fellow team members when needed

Administrative/Communication:

  • Organize and maintain files and records
  • Prepare reports as necessary
  • Communicate regularly with Supervisor to ensure smooth delivery of services
  • Complete program summary reports for employers, funders, JVS leadership and other stakeholders
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date information in all databases
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested

MINIMIUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 1-3 years of experience in workforce development or related field required
  • 1-3 years of experience working with individuals with barriers to employment strongly desired
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills required
  • Experience in marketing and outreach desired
  • Proficiency in a language spoken by immigrant participants strongly preferred (Spanish, Arabic, Haitian Kreyol, or French)
  • Familiarity with career ladders and professional advancement required
  • Knowledge of community resources in Massachusetts and web-based resources preferred
  • Presentation and facilitation skills preferred

EDUCATION REQUIRED: Associate Degree in Human Services, Business Administration or related field
