Who We Are

A national nonprofit founded by teachers, TNTP believes our nation’s public schools can offer all children an excellent education. Today we’re a diverse team from a wide range of fields, united by a fierce commitment to helping school systems end educational inequality. We work at every level of the public education system to attract and train talented teachers and school leaders, ensure rigorous and engaging classrooms, and create environments that prioritize great teaching and accelerate student learning.

TNTP's work in Catalytic Communities team is grounded in racial equity and a commitment to all students. We are focused on upending the opportunity gap alongside communities and, together, work to drive policy change. Our team partners to listen and learn from communities about local priorities and translate these issues into specific policy asks. We also partner with decision-makers to impact the state, district, and local level policies to evaluate the impact on educational opportunities.

What You’ll Do

As the Director, you will channel the energy of and support a community in Alabama, North Carolina, or Northern Georgia to come together as a coalition to design the educational blueprint for their communities. You will build large teams of community leaders that can mobilize their community to engage on pivotal issues, specifically education or ed-adjacent ones. Directors will participate in developing leaders, designing plans and strategies, setting, and hitting goals, planning actions, and identifying strategic opportunities to expand the partnerships' scale and scope. You will utilize and train others to use social media, texting campaign, and multimedia to recruit new supporters and lead people. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and can keep multiple projects moving, plan for and hit deadlines, and collaborate with partners both inside and outside the organization.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Cultivating and managing high-level relationships with community partners, organizational and business leaders, foundations, parents, students, and families to design an educational blueprint for their communities
  • Setting strategies and generating new ideas to build a comprehensive community outreach action plan
  • Creating high-quality, data-driven reports demonstrating the student experience to motivate and influence stakeholders to act
  • Bringing excellent management skills, including experience effectively managing diverse teams, building inclusive team culture, and growing and developing staff to be successful in their work and career

  • Helping those leaders succeed by training and coaching them how to strategize, organize, inspire, and motivate others.

Qualifications:

  • At least 3-5 years of experience organizing and developing coalitions from the ground up
  • Experience working with grasstop and grassroots community organizations with a demonstrated commitment to social, racial, and economic justice
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including effectively identifying the right stakeholders to partner with, facilitating consensus, and investing staff and clients in a clear vision to build success
  • Excellent project management skills and an ability to work efficiently and independently and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience implementing a range of organizing strategies and training and developing others in campaign and organizing activities
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus, Spanish language is preferred.

What You Bring

You’ll be right at home here if you learn from failure and overcome adversity, cultivate strong relationships, understand the power of diversity, advocate for equity, aspire to lead through inclusion, and push yourself, your work and the people around you to the next level.

We expect our Director of Community Coalition to:

  • Build relationships. You have an organizer’s mindset and can connect and build relationships with diverse communities. You are discrete and diplomatic in your interactions and leverage a variety of means to community and engage.

Your creative instincts will help you deal with vague situations and develop new approaches with limited guidance.
  • Model cross-cultural agility. Authentic self-reflection, self-awareness, and high emotional intelligence are central to who you are, and you utilize these skills to shape a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion, that influences how you think about your work. You have an adept cultural understanding of yourself and use your understanding of yourself and others to build trusting relationships with direct reports, colleagues, and clients.
