Description

Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow (OBT) seeks an energetic, organized professional to join our Jamaica, Queens location. This team member will play a critical role in engaging and supporting Opportunity Youth (17-24 years old) in our Career Pathways Program. The Career Readiness Counselor will have a range of responsibilities including but not limited to community outreach, intake and assessment; individual career counseling and follow-up; small group counseling; and case records management and reporting. The Career Readiness Counselor is an ideal position for professionals who have excellent skills in working with young adults and are interested in further developing their leadership skills.


Responsibilities include working with opportunity youth ages 17-24 to increase HSE attainment and/or earn occupational credential, complete individualized career plan, job and college retention; collecting job/college verification paperwork from participants; entering client information into multiple data systems; preparing client folders and facilitating a monthly Stay at Work Program; providing intake and assessment to ensure candidates are suitable for OBT programming.

Scope of Work:


We are seeking a team member that has the unique balance of natural/developing leadership abilities, detail orientation, and excellent engagement and assessment skills. The day to day will be a diverse mix of outcome planning, participant meetings, recruitment. An ideal team member will be highly organized, enthusiastically mission driven and eager to grow and develop themselves, OBT Programs and their participants. The ideal candidate will be committed to a model of high expectations with high levels of support and believe in the power of education and meaningful employment to change the life trajectory of young adults.


Professional Qualifications:  Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience); strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate well with all stakeholders; ability to work well independently and as part of an interdisciplinary diverse team; interest in developing innovative and engaging ways to approach to workforce programming. Must be available to work evenings.
