Legal Prep Charter Academy is an open-enrollment charter high school in the heart of Chicago's West Garfield Park Neighborhood. Legal Prep students are primarily from Chicago's west side. 100% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch and vast majority are first-generation college students. The Special Programs Coordinator is a member of the Development team. The Special Programs Coordinator and Development Team support the schools enrichment programs to bring college awareness, mentoring, and a rich social justice focused education to all students through a variety of programs and opportunities in and out of the classroom. The Development team also ensures that the school has the financial support to prosper, including procuring grants, individual giving programs, annual event fundraisers, and developing partnerships of support with the downtown Chicago Legal Community. Another key aspect to the Development team is communications and marketing through active social media presence, communication with donors and supporters, community engagement, and more.


Position Description:

The Special Programs Coordinator (“Coordinator”) has overall responsibility of supporting the enrichment programs, fundraising, and communications/marketing. In this role, the Coordinator will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer and Development Manager on the business side of the school and help guide the school’s development programs. This position will also assist in leading the school’s flagship law program and support other team members who are spearheading Legal Prep’s parent engagement, community service and outreach, student engagement, as well as assist in managing special programs such as Legal Prep's Mentoring programs, student internship experiential, professionalism field trips, and community legal clinic. Given the diversity of this role and team, this position requires a unique combination of student compassion and corporate salesmanship. The Coordinator must be as comfortable working directly with students and coordinating school programs as they are establishing partnerships and marketing the organization to attorneys, other downtown professionals, and supporters. Organizational development, program management, teaching, and oversight of administrative duties are among the diverse roles of this leadership position. In addition, the Coordinator should be a person of vision, high energy, initiative, creativity, and follow through. This position reports to the Development Associate and Chief Operating Officer.


Desired skills, experiences, and qualities:

The qualified candidate for this position should have at minimum a Bachelor’s degree.


Additional qualifications include experience (including internship experience) working in either a school, non-profit, or for-profit organization, with particular experience and interest in:

• Marketing and communications

• Program development and management

• Volunteer recruitment and retention

• Student teaching and/or management.


Other qualifications and experience should include:

• Commitment to the organization’s mission

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Competence in a variety of computer applications, including Salesforce, word processing, databases and spreadsheets
