The Communications Data Analyst will help ensure the ACLU of Texas meets its communications and engagement goals through data analysis, reporting, and integration—including database support and enhancements—that move volunteers and followers up a ladder of engagement. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Maintain database integrity, accuracy, effectiveness, and protocols, as well as protect constituent confidentiality and enforce ACLU’s privacy policy.
  • Act as liaison with the ACLU National database team to ensure best practices and most effective use of the ACLU 360 database.
  • Analyze constituent data to help guide volunteer and follower outreach strategy.
  • Advise the Engagement and Communications Departments on opportunities for new and continued engagement of ACLU followers, volunteers and target communities.
  • Develop evaluative reports for follower and volunteer tracking and management.
  • Facilitate data requests from the ACLU staff.
  • Troubleshoot creative ways to integrate, streamline, and develop cross-departmental initiatives that assimilate the People Power, VAN, ACLU 360, social media and other tools in a manner that best supports our strategic priorities—with an emphasis volunteer and follower outreach, analysis, and engagement.
  • Enter data from event and volunteer trainings into the VAN.
  • Collaborate with the ACLU National research team.
  • Prepare volunteer and follower analysis and memos for Executive staff.
  • Oversee and help strategize all targeted outreach to new members, current members, followers, and volunteers.
  • Work with the Administrative Assistant and supervise volunteers to assist in this work.
  • Provide support for volunteer events and quarterly events.
  • Create regular 360 snap reports for each issue area with recommendations to optimize our effectiveness through digital channels and engagement team outreach.
  • Monitor the ladder of engagement and identify key moments to move constituents to a higher level of action.
  • Work closely with development department to create targeted campaigns (ex: welcome, recruitment, renewals)
  • Pull list for phone banks, block walking, and political targeting from the VAN.
  • Run Facebook ad programs to targeted audiences and districts.
  • Main point person for People Power (update website, correspond with national staff, notify staff of upcoming events, communicate with hosts)
  • Research and maintain list of organizations in key districts for potential outreach for speaker requests and engagement (ex: faith groups, rotary clubs, community centers)
  • Conduct data focused research on our issues as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


The Communications Data Analyst will have the ability to take the initiative, problem-solve, multi-task, and work independently and liaise with others on engagement strategies as a part of a team in a collaborative environment. This position must have strong interpersonal and communication skill and a high level of professionalism. The ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with donors, board members, volunteers, staff, and the public. The Communications Data Analyst must demonstrate a commitment to civil rights and civil liberties consistent with the mission and goals of the ACLU. The position requires a person that is self-motivated and self-directed with the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Five years’ experience in databases and database management. Nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Experience with Salesforce preferred.
  • Experience with VAN administration required.
  • Experience analyzing social media metrics required.
  • High ethical standards, and a commitment to the confidentiality of volunteer records.
  • Flexible work schedule overtime required.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
