About the Organization: 


The mission of Junior Achievement is to empower young people to own their economic success through financial literacy, workforce readiness, and entrepreneurship education in K-12 schools throughout our region. Junior Achievement of Southwest New England serves seven Connecticut counties (excluding only Fairfield County). During the 2017-18 school year, JA of Southwest New England served more than 45,000 students, thanks to the efforts of 3,000 business/community volunteers. JA of Southwest New England, based in Hartford, CT (satellite office in New Haven) has been recognized by JA USA in recent years for financial stability, student growth, and overall management efficiency.


Position Description: 


Junior Achievement of Southwest New England seeks a dynamic, strategic individual to manage one of the organization’s highest-potential-growth fundraisers, the JA Bowl-a-thon. JA Bowl-a-thon events are held throughout the year at various locations and currently account for 7% of JA’s overall revenue, though our goal is to significantly increase Bowl-a-thon revenue over the next few years. The ideal candidate will be passionate about JA’s mission and have the ability to develop and implement strategies to increase participation from new and existing companies and individuals.  


Duties and Responsibilities: 


Sales, Management and Outreach:


  • Organize and execute JA bowling activities to successfully meet and exceed financial goals and build awareness for JA’s mission
  • Manage all aspects of each Bowl-a-thon event, including: advertising, event collateral, coordinator outreach, event registration, raffle facilitation, volunteer sign-ups, and event set-up and break-down
  • Steward relationships with existing participants
  • Cultivate relationships with new individual and corporate leaders
  • Work with education staff members to identify potential new bowling companies/organizations
  • Strategize ways to turn bowling participants into classroom volunteers and overall JA champions
  • Assist in the organization and execution of the JA Business Hall of Fame, Golf Classic, Partners in
  • Achievement breakfasts, and Office Warriors events as needed
  • Assist Development team with additional projects/events as needed


  • Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience in development field, preferably in event planning and/or event management
  • Competitive and results-driven with the ability to motivate participants to fundraise
  • Strong relationship management skills with the ability to work with a variety of constituents, including events sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and participants
  • Excellent organization, presentation, and communication skills
  • Commitment to providing superior customer service
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office; experience with fundraising databases (i.e. Raiser’s Edge and Qgiv) and EMMA a plus
