Legal Prep Charter Academy seeks a Development Manager to begin in January 2022.  Legal Prep Charter Academy (“Legal Prep”) is Chicago’s first and only legal-themed high school, putting diverse, low-income students on the path for college success.  Legal Prep opened its doors on August 20, 2012 in West Garfield Park and began offering free, college preparatory education to students in a community with primarily low performing schools.  Legal Prep is consistently the highest rated high school in a two-mile radius and has over 65% of its alumni in college.  Legal Prep is in its tenth year of operation during this 2021-22 school year, has a current enrollment of 270 students, and plans to enroll close to 300 students next school year.  As the name indicates, Legal Prep has a legal-themed curriculum and uses this unique theme to engage its diverse population of students in their learning and teach skills that will make our students successful in college and life.  Legal Prep also works closely with the Chicago legal community to provide additional resources, exposure, and skills that complement our curriculum and promote analytical reasoning and critical thinking.

 

The Development Manager (“Manager”) has overall responsibility for supporting the fundraising efforts, marketing campaigns, and enrichment programs for the school.  In this role, the Manager will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer on the business side of the school and help guide the school’s development programs.  This position will also lead the school’s flagship law program and support other team members who are spearheading Legal Prep’s parent engagement, community service, and other special programs such as mentoring programs and legal clinic.  Given the diversity of this role and team, this position requires a unique combination of student compassion and corporate salesmanship.  While there will be a focus on the business side, the manager must be as comfortable working directly with students and coordinating school programs as they are establishing partnerships and marketing the organization to attorneys, other downtown professionals, and supporters.  Organizational development, program management, teaching, and oversight of administrative duties are among the diverse roles of this leadership position. In addition, the Manager should be a person of vision, high energy, initiative, creativity, and follow through.  This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

 

 

 

 

 

Responsibilities:

The Manager will participate in and contribute to a broad range of activities within the organization, including but not limited to the following:

·      Support existing and new fundraising and marketing initiatives

·      Assist in creating new fundraising and marketing campaigns

·      Oversee the organization’s marketing and communication campaigns

·      Assist in the design and roll out of marketing collateral, periodic updates, and annual reports

·      Lead Legal Prep’s Law Programs, which pair student Advisories to meet monthly with law firms and corporations

·      Coordinate Legal Prep’s annual fundraising events

·      Work closely with and manage Legal Prep’s Associate Board

·      Maintain and develop fundraising and volunteer databases

·      Assist in donor stewardship and correspondence

·      Identify new potential funders and partners

·      Support grant writing and assist in sourcing new grant opportunities

·      Lead other special projects that come out of the Business office

·      Assist Chief Operating Officer & CEO prepare for Board of Directors meetings and other development related meetings and conferences

·      Support and work closely with other team members throughout the school, especially when and where business and school related activities and programs intersect  

 

Qualifications:

The qualified candidate for this position should have at minimum a Bachelor’s degree.  Additional qualifications include a minimum of three years’ experience working in either a school, non-profit, or for-profit organization, with particular experience and interest in:

·      Fund development

·      Marketing and communications

·      Program development and management

·      Volunteer recruitment and retention, and

·      Student teaching and/or management.

 

 

The qualified candidate should have superior organizational skills and the ability to identify and develop a rapport potential donors and volunteers.  Other qualifications and experience should include:

·      Commitment to the organization’s mission

·      Experience with strategic planning and junior board development

·      Excellent verbal and written communication skills

·      Ability to apply principles and practices of sound management and supervisory methods

·      Competence in a variety of computer applications, including Salesforce, word processing, databases and spreadsheets

·      The management skills required to move the organization forward in achieving its goals
