Description

The Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL) seeks a fundraising officer to implement its individual donors fundraising strategy, under the supervision of the Executive Direction. This position will be based in Washington, D.C. Established in 1991 by a group of prominent Latin American human rights defenders, CEJIL is a non-governmental organization whose mission is the promotion and protection of human rights in the Americas through the use of the Inter-American Human Rights System and other international mechanisms of protection. Responsibilities

  1. Implement CEJIL’s individual donors fundraising strategy;
  2. Prospect and Identify annual giving constituents, with a focus on mid-range donors;
  3. Cultivate and solicit individual and, in some cases, corporate annual giving donors.
  4. Elaborate writing and other fundraising materials to engage prospects and cultivate donors, in coordination with the communication area;
  5. Organize events, webinars, cocktails, brownbag-lunches and others in order to engage with prospects or cultivate donors;
  6. Work with the Communications team on English-language engagement material, including but not limited to newsletters, social media posts, op-eds, or press releases.
  7. Recruit, and manage interns to carry out the fundraising plan;
  8. Manage and update databases to record donor contacts and other relevant information;
  9. Research and search for new prospects, including, but not limited to, academics, family foundations, law firms partners and associates;
  10. Engage with individual donors and prospects, through emails, telephone calls, meetings and presentations;
  11. Assist with general administrative and communication tasks related to the position;

Qualifications

  1. Demonstrate a strong commitment to CEJIL’s mission, purpose and values;
  2. Bachelor degree in related field (Masters preferred but not required);
  3. Three years of experience in non-profit development or fundraising (willing to consider a motivated individual with less experience but demonstrated commitment to human rights and/or fundraising);
  4. Strong communicational skills and the ability to develop contents and arguments that will enable engagement with prospects;
  5. Exceptional interpersonal skills with high degree of emotional intelligence, possess cultural agility skills to work effectively with diverse groups of individuals and communities;
  6. Ability to write, edit, and communicate fluently in English and Spanish
  7. Ability to work on own initiative and work with others as part of a team;
  8. Ability to work under pressure and on various projects at once;
  9. Knowledge of local philanthropy, individual and business wealth in the region to be served;
  10. Ability to work on digital platforms, microsites, CMR platforms (Salsalabs) will be considered a plus;
  11. Willingness to travel around the region and work in a multicultural environment.
