Job Description

Magis Americas is seeking an experienced professional to join its team as Finance Officer (FO), reporting to the Executive Director. The FO will contribute to the financial and operational management of the organization. This includes responsibility for regular/recurring financial and operational functions, providing financial oversight for Global South projects and overseeing the administration and financial management of the organization’s budget. 


General Responsibilities 

Organizational Financial Administration:

  • Maintain financial records and accounting system (Quickbooks).
  • Review, prepare and process all transactions for Global South projects while ensuring compliance with internal financial procedures and grant regulations.
  • Process bill payments, international wires and ACH transfers.
  • Lead annual audit and preparation of organizational tax fillings (990).
  • Ensure compliance with organizational registrations and filings.
  • Shepherd the preparation and monitoring of the annual operating budget.
  • Assist with management of vendors, insurance and banking relationships.

Programmatic and Fundraising Financial Support:

  • Support Projects Team in the development and monitoring of project budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with grant regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Assist with managing subgrant portfolios by:
  • Drafting subgrant agreements
  • Monitoring subgrantee progress reporting and payment schedules.
  • Support financial components of the Development Team’s fundraising efforts.
  • Support other administrative initiatives taken on by Magis Americas as needed. 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (e.g., finance, accounting, business administration, or other relevant field).
  • Three-five years experience in a finance role, with experience in accounting, bookkeeping and/or account reconciliation; preferably in a nonprofit organization.
  • Experience managing grant/project funding preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures relating to accounting, financial controls and financial information systems.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. tax laws and regulations.
  • Excellent writing, editing and oral presentation skills. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills, as well as attention to detail. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work proactively and independently, as well as in a team environment
  • Ability to manage time effectively and manage multiple priorities. 
  • Excellent computer skills, including Quickbooks, Microsoft Office, Google Drive and CRM (Salesforce) software.
  • Familiarity with the Society of Jesus a plus.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
