Job Title:  Receptionist

Reports to Director of Operations


Position Overview: Sterling House Community Center, Inc. (SHCC) is seeking a friendly, dynamic, new team member to be the face of our front office operations. This individual is  mission-driven and excited about working with others, while embodying a customer-service drive and disposition.  


Responsibilities Include:

  • Displays exemplary customer service; including greeting customers in a professional manner in person, on the phone and in all electronic forms of communication.
  • Actively interacts and engages with patrons to give information, determine needs, and refer to SHCC departments as necessary. 
  • Effectively uses Daxko Software to gather patron data, make updates, keep records, complete transactions and handle registrations, both in house and online.
  • Understands all programs and services SHCC offers and provides accurate information in all forms of communication regarding programs, services, activities, events, and financial aid offerings. 
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of the front desk area, lobby, and main service areas.
  • Assists SHCC Staff with business and administrative tasks, answering of phones, making copies, filing, etc. 
  • Assists with the streamlining of administrative and main office procedures including filing, billing, customer engagement, and accounts receivable.  
  • Works with the Youth Development staff to oversee enrollments, registrations, payments, and paperwork of the pre-school, after school and camp programs. 
  • Monitors activities that are in session to make sure patrons are utilizing the facility appropriately. 
  • Secures the facility at the end of the shift, including arming the facility in the evening and on the weekend.
  • Ability to promote SHCC in a positive manner to patrons and in the community. 
  • Assists with House-wide initiatives and events as needed. 
  • Attends supervisory meetings with direct supervisor & all team/organization meetings and trainings as requested.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by Supervisor based on SHCC operational needs. 


Qualifications: 

  • Minimum High School diploma or GED degree. 
  • Bilingual (Spanish) candidates are highly encouraged to apply. 
  • Must have at least 1-year experience working in a professional administrative position. 
  • Experience and enjoyment working with diverse populations with a customer service focus; including a wide range of volunteers, interns, executives, donors, community members, and partners.
  • Exemplary communication skills, with experience speaking with the public, patrons, and families. 
  • Strong computer and IT skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google platforms, data management, and utilization of online registration platforms.
  • Ability to lift approximately 40 pounds of supplies and load/unload/drive SHCC van when needed. 
  • Ability to multitask, remain calm, and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and good problem-solving skills.
  • Driven to take initiative to work toward ongoing improvements and innovation.
  • Mission-driven, team-player who is passionate about working in a community center environment.


Commitment: 

  • This is a part-time position, with potential growth to full-time status, beginning at 15-20 hours a week. 
  • The 15-20 hrs is predominately evenings and weekends to begin (Thurs 2-9, Fri 2-6, Saturday 9-1, Sundays as needed) 
  • During peak season(s) the employee may work additional hours to meet the needs of events/activities/programs.
