Position: Executive Director

Full-Time/Exempt

Location: Rohnert Park, CA

Reports to: WomenServe US, Founder and the Foundation Board of Directors

Domestic and International Travel: 20%


Summary

We have an incredible opportunity to join our team as Executive Director, in an integral part of our newly envisioned leadership strategy. In recent months, WomenServe has engaged in significant organizational reflection, resulting in the exciting decision to welcome an experienced nonprofit professional to lead our organization into its next rendition. We are looking for a dynamic and driven individual who is excited by the opportunity to build and lead a growing fundraising and grantmaking foundation.


About Us

WomenServe was founded by Nioma Sadler to unlock the potential of women and girls in Western Rajasthan, India by increasing access to water, health and hygiene, education, and economic empowerment. We are a California non-profit, private foundation organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.


Your Impact

Reporting to the Board of Directors and working closely with the Founder and President, the Executive Director (ED) will lead the strategic growth of the organization in order to scale its impact and mission.


1) Leadership & Governance: Work with the Founder, Board of Directors, and Team in order to fulfill the Foundation’s mission.

  • Lead and guide the organization to ensure ongoing grantmaking excellence, grant making evaluation, and consistent quality of finance, administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve these strategic goals.
  • Communicate with the Founders, the Board, Company Leadership, and other key partners in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Foundation to function properly and to make informed decisions.
  • Work with the Founder to develop, maintain, and support a strong group of dedicated stakeholders; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for both ongoing local operations as well as international grantmaking.

 

2) Strategic Development: Work with the Founder, Board, and Team to ensure that the purpose is fulfilled through strategic planning, grantmaking, communication and evaluation.

  • Lead strategic planning to ensure that the Foundation can successfully fulfill its purpose into the future.
  • Grant-make to projects that carry out the Foundation’s purpose and successfully benchmark against the strategic plan.
  • Build partnerships and enhance the Foundation’s brand by participating actively in the community, establishing relationships with funders, stakeholders, and political and community leaders.

 

3) Financial Management: Utilize and develop resources to ensure the financial health of the Foundation.

  • Manage the financial processes and integrity of the Foundation, including creation and management of annual budgets, financial statements and analysis, oversight of tax preparation and annual financial audits.
  • Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position,
  • Manage philanthropy efforts, including developing and managing grant databases, optimizing the grant administration process, reviewing proposals, and engaging with partner organizations.

 

4) Fundraising & Communications: Work with the Founder, Board and Team to expand revenue generating and fundraising activities.

  • Responsible for fundraising, marketing and developing resources to support the Foundation’s mission.
  • Develop and lead annual fundraising activities to support existing program operations and expansion.
  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications and marketing—from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand.
  • Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities.

 

5) Operations: Oversee and implement appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the Foundation are appropriate, efficient and effective.

  • Develop and administer systems for the Foundation’s operations; including but not limited to, human resources, finance management, project planning and team management.
  • Hire, train and retain competent, qualified team members; support team and staff development strategies; coordinate staff reviews and work plans.
  • Responsible for signing all contracts, agreements, grants and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the Foundation.
  • Recruit, oversee and train volunteers

 

What You Bring

The ED will be thoroughly committed to WomenServe’s mission, bringing proven leadership, communication, and relationship management experience.

  • 7+ years Senior Nonprofit/Foundation management experience;
  • A demonstrated expertise and enthusiasm to raise six figures annually;
  • A Master’s Degree in a relevant field (nonprofit management, organizational development, etc.) or demonstrable experience working for an international grantmaking foundation;
  • Transparent and high integrity leadership,with unwavering commitment to delivering quality programs;
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, develop projects, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget;
  • Ability to convey a vision of the Foundation’s strategic future to the Founder’s, Board, Team, Volunteers and Donors;
  • Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships;
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including strong and persuasive public speaking ability;
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with international teams and effectively work across business silos with differing cultures, working styles and ecosystems;
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning; and
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed.

  • Sonoma County, California. Headquarters in Rohnert Park, with willingness to travel locally and internationally.
