Executive Director

Seattle Against Slavery, a non-profit dedicated to ending sex trafficking and sexual exploitation, is looking for an Executive Director to grow our organization. The Executive Director will oversee all functions of the organization, develop long-term funding strategies, and serve as a leader in the wider anti-trafficking community in Washington State and nationally. We are in need of an Executive Director who possesses the skills and vision to operationalize growth and expansion of successful programming.

Seattle Against Slavery aims to end sexual exploitation in our communities by changing culture through prevention, intervention, and transformation. We envision a world where no one is exploited for sex and we work towards this vision through our three flagship programs: Education, Technology, and Men’s Accountability. 

Our three strategic priorities are:

• Prevention: We engage youth in the anti-violence movement, increasing the number of people who are educated about exploitation.

• Intervention: We create technology that connects victims and survivors with advocates who offer help and hope.

• Transformation: We establish pathways for justice and accountability among men who have caused harm.

What you will be doing

Our organization just celebrated our 12-year anniversary! We are proud of our growth and development over this time, starting out as a grassroots community mobilization organization to a now stable and thriving organization poised for growth in the coming years. We are looking for an Executive Director who can lead our organization in rapid growth to support our strong programs. 

Examples of the work you will be doing in the first 6 months include:

• Retain and develop a high-performing team of 5 full time and several part-time staff
• Work with the Board of Directors to finalize and lead execution on a 3-year strategic plan
• Develop new communications strategies and deepen relationships with supporters, partners, and funders
• Implement consistent accounting and budget management policies and procedures 
• Create HR, benefits, and people management policy and procedure in line with industry best practices
• Recruit and engage a diverse Board of Directors, supporting committee development to leverage current board members’ skills and experience and deepen Board involvement 

Required skills we’re looking for:

Leadership & Management

• Experience in coaching and developing high performing employees with an eye on staff retention
• Ability to conduct thorough data-driven program evaluations to recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals
• Communicate to different audiences to develop strong ties in the anti-trafficking community, effectively share program successes, and create long term brand vision

Fundraising & Communications

• Proven track record of revenue generation and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and expansion of programs
• Public speaking skills and media training for events, presentations, and awareness campaigns to support the organization
• Experience creating donor stewardship practices and growing a new donor base

Operations Oversight

• At least 3 years of experience managing an organization’s budget and finances
• Ability to create reports on the organization’s overall financial and operational health to be shared with the Board of Directors
• Experience scaling out programs in a growing organization while retaining company culture

Additional Qualifications:

• A relevant degree or equivalent combination of working and lived experience
• 5 years of experience in people management
• Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
• Demonstrated commitment to social justice, equity, and accountability
• Very strong technology skills and confidence using software tools to document and facilitate remote work
• Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning

Nice-to-Haves:

• An advanced degree, ideally an MBA, MPA, MSW, or related degree
• Prior experience at a growing non-profit or startup company
• Prior experience in any one of our program areas: education, software development, or men’s accountability
• Experience leading a remote team
• Online marketing and brand development experience
• Exposure to anti-trafficking and anti-exploitation movements or related human rights causes such as gender equity, criminal justice reform, or social services
• Members of communities disproportionately impacted by trafficking and survivors strongly encouraged to apply.

Salary range: $95,000 - $130,000 DOE

Location: Seattle Preferred. Our organization is currently working remotely during the pandemic with hopes to return to an office space in the future. Most of our staff is in the Seattle area, but we also have remote workers as a core part of our team.

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear; utilize a phone, computer, keyboard, pen and paper. This position will also require travel and commuting to rural areas. 

Emotional demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to discuss topics including, but not limited, to sex trafficking, sexual exploitation, child abuse, domestic abuse, and other violence.
