Description

The Global Justice Center is currently seeking a highly motivated and energetic Staff Attorney to join our Program team. We are looking for a dedicated advocate with a passion for human rights and gender equality to join our small and high-energy team. The ideal candidate is a team player who is familiar with international human rights law and mechanisms and has legal/policy experience in reproductive rights and accountability for sexual and gender-based violence. The Staff Attorney will report directly to the Deputy Legal Director.

This position is available immediately and is a permanent role.


I. Duties & Responsibilities

Major duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

·        Conduct research on diverse legal, political, factual, and administrative issues relating to women’s rights; sexual and reproductive health and rights, abortion access, human rights, sexual and gender-based violence, armed conflict, peace & security, and other topics; 

·        Prepare legal and policy analyses, briefing documents, written comments, and educational materials and write legal and advocacy materials for human rights bodies, international organizations, national governments, courts, grassroots partners, the general public, and other audiences;

·        Assist with the recruitment and supervision of fellows, interns, and volunteers;

·        Represent GJC at meetings and events as required; and

·        Provide support to communications and development teams as required.


II. Qualifications

·        J.D. or equivalent law degree;

·        Experience and expertise in international humanitarian law, international human rights law, or women’s rights;

·        2-4 years experience in a legal capacity at an advocacy or policy-based organization;

·        Exceptional research, writing, and communication skills; demonstrated ability to write clearly and compellingly for a variety of audiences, including policymakers and the general public;

·        Experience synthesizing complex ideas and explaining them simply and engagingly;

·        Experience conducting international policy advocacy in various governmental and intergovernmental fora;

·        Experience overseeing the production of legal briefs and other materials;

·        Passion, tenacity and experience/interest international justice, women’s rights, reproductive rights, and accountability for sexual and gender-based violence;

·        Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, initiate and manage projects, prioritize, and perform a wide variety of tasks with maximum efficiency; and

·        Proven ability to work both independently and in close coordination with a team.
