PROGRAM GRANTS OFFICER

MiracleFeet is a global nonprofit working to eliminate a leading cause of physical disability worldwide. Over two million children live with the severe consequences of a treatable birth defect known as clubfoot, and 175,000 more babies are born with it every year. Thanks to a non-surgical solution called the Ponseti method, 95 percent of cases can be fully treated for less than $500. Since 2010, MiracleFeet has scaled this proven, low-cost treatment to 29 countries where children previously had limited or no access to care. Still, today fewer than one in five children has access to treatment.

Summary

The Grants Officer will play a key role in the financial management of both grants MiracleFeet awards to its partners and grants MiracleFeet receives from external funders. The Grants Officer will ensure operational, financial, procedural, compliance, and reporting excellence across MiracleFeet’s programs.

This position reports to the Director of Program Operations and works closely with all members of the programs team (both at headquarters and in the field), as well as the MiracleFeet admin team. This is a full-time, exempt position based out of MiracleFeet’s Chapel Hill, NC office.

Essential Functions

Partner Financial Management and Compliance

• Oversee the development of annual grant budgets for all partners (currently 29)
• Monitor grant spending in collaboration with program managers through quarterly reports
• Review and verify partners’ financial transactions, activities, and documentation for accuracy, appropriateness and completeness and ensure full compliance with regulations, policies, and recording and reporting systems
• Use Amp Impact for tracking and assessing expenditures and forecasts of program/partner financial performance against budget, financial, and operational goals
• Ensure programs adhere to best practices in financial reporting
• Manage partner wire requests and coordinate payment with Administration team Conduct regular compliance reviews of grant programs. Review partner audits and recommend operational improvements where needed
• Monitor and strengthen the use of management systems (e.g. developing budget planning tools) to streamline partner on-boarding process for new partners and fiscal year planning with ongoing partners
• Create uniform criteria for signing new partner agreements

Program Budget Monitoring and Reporting

• Assist with the development of the annual Programs department budget within the overall MiracleFeet organizational budget
• Monitor Programs department spending, forecast future spending, and report on trends monthly to leadership
• Perform cost analysis across program spending and run reports on key programmatic areas such as cost per child and historical spending
• Manage the Programs department’s participation in the annual audit, working closely with the Finance and Administration team
• Manage Program team’s financial reporting for MiracleFeet’s grants and awards in accordance with grant requirements
• Prepare and/or review information and reports for internal and external stakeholders
• Develop and modify programmatic policies, procedures, and systems in accordance with grant requirements and organizational needs
• As needed, create new tracking and monitoring tools to ensure operational excellence across the program team

Partner Capacity Building

• Orient partners to MiracleFeet’s reporting requirements including training on expense report and other tools as needed
• Identify and troubleshoot problem areas in partner’s financial management
• Conduct training for and assist MiracleFeet’s partners with creating, implementing, and maintaining sound financial practices, such as the creation of accounting systems or financial policies and procedures manuals
• Conduct trainings virtually and in-person for programs needing additional capacity building in administrative and financial areas

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in grants and compliance, preferably for a nonprofit
• Excellent IT literacy in Microsoft Excel
• Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English
• Ability to travel internationally as needed, including to low- and middle-income countries approximately twice per year

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Experience in financial and administrative operations, accounting, global health, international development
• Experience with US Government, specifically USAID, contracts or grants a plus
• Previous living, working, or volunteer experience in a low-resource setting outside the United States
• Experience developing, overseeing, and/or completing budgets and reports
• Excellent analytical, quantitative and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to synthesize information quickly
• Excels at operating in a fast paced, collaborative environment
• Politically-savvy and culturally competent: skilled in diplomacy and relationship-building, sensitive to cultural norms and expectations
• Flexible to the needs of the organization and the challenges often faced when working in low- and middle-income countries
