Job Description: Director of Programs

Employment status: FTE, exempt, benefited

Reports to: Executive Director (ED)

Supervises: 3-5 staff

Salary range: $50K-$60K, with benefits

Working Conditions:

The WDRC continually strives to provide a supportive, healthy, and productive work environment. Staff serve the public through a variety of programming both onsite within WDRC owned and rented facilities, and in public and private spaces. Given the nature of the WDRC’s mission and services, the possibility of exposure to escalated emotion and offensive language from the public exists. The WDRC expects staff to respond to these instances with diplomacy, tact, and compassion.

Position summary: The Director of Programs is a key member of the WDRC’s leadership team within our nonprofit organization. The Director of Programs is responsible for working closely, collaboratively, and supportively with the Executive Director and staff to effectively develop and nurture organizational, program, and staff capacity. This position models WDRC’s core values and embodies a warm, welcoming, and professional demeanor while interacting with fellow staff, program partners, volunteers, donors, clients, vendors, contractors, and at times, the community at large. Primary Position Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

 Support ED as a thought partner to advance the strategic direction of the organization.

 Work closely with ED to monitor operational performance, strengthen systems, and build organizational capacity.

 Work closely with ED to plan and monitor financial performance to support program growth.

 Support implementation of agency-wide initiatives and efforts.

 Strengthen organization’s alignment with IDEA (inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility) principles, policies, practices.

 Serve as a point person in ED’s absence and provide onsite support to staff as WDRC resumes in-person operations.

Program and Services Development

 Supervise Program Managers and support their success.

 Work closely with ED and program managers to identify and pursue service development opportunities.

 Work closely with ED and program managers to identify and implement systems for efficiency and efficacy.

 Collaborate with staff to expand and diversify our client base for agency-wide services.

 Collaborate with staff to develop and submit program grant proposals.

 At the direction of the ED, pursue and manage special projects.

Program Grant and Contract Management

 Monitor fiscal YTD funds utilized for various program grants and contracts.

 Review and monitor monthly contract and grant invoices prior to submission

 Monitor contractual (grant and otherwise) obligations to ensure compliance.

 Ensure financial, data, and compliance reports for program contracts and grants are submitted as needed.

Other responsibilities

 Contribute to effective coordination and teamwork of staff, volunteers, and contractors to support operational, service and fund development efforts.

 Actively participate in staff meetings and agency events.

 Collaborate with other staff to achieve organization’s mission and contribute to shared staff responsibilities.

 Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

1. MA (or BA + commensurate experience) in related field and minimum 3-5 years of supervision and management

2. Demonstrated track record of program and systems management;

3. Demonstrated understanding and valuing of equity, diversity, inclusivity, and accessibility

4. Demonstrated experience with financial management

5. Project management experience;

6. Belief in and understanding of our mission, and familiarity with mediation and conflict resolution;

7. Flexibility, including ability to occasionally work early morning, evening, and weekend hours;

8. Exceptional organizational skills, and a high level of attention to detail;

9. Excellent verbal and written communicator, and an outstanding listener;

10. Strong sense of initiative, sense of humor, and compassion;

11. Desire and ability to work collaboratively;

12. Ability to enlist support, delegate, and work effectively others;

13. Ability to multi-task, manage time, meet deadlines, and address emergent issues;

14. Excellent proficiency with Windows applications;

15. Comfort and ease with technology

16. Ability to work comfortably with limited supervision;

17. Ability to troubleshoot/problem solve as issues arise;

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

1. 5-7 years management and supervision experience;

2. Bilingual in Spanish;

3. Experience with development and implementation of strategic and operational plans;

4. Mediator training and/or certification;

5. Familiarity with Whatcom County
