Common Wealth Development, Inc. is a nonprofit community development corporation, seeking a seasoned real estate development professional to lead our Real Estate Development activities. In addition to overseeing real estate development projects and opportunities, an ideal candidate will have management experience overseeing housing and maintenance staff, experience oversee compliance and reporting, rent collections and financial management, supervision, program planning, and budgeting. This is a full-time position at 40 hours.

 Responsibilities:

  • Lead the real estate development activities of the organization, with a focus on affordable housing development.
  • Oversee the acquisition of land, financing, construction, and property management of affordable housing projects.
  • Develop and implement strategies for creating new affordable housing opportunities, including the use of Section 42 Tax Credits, HOME funds, and other public and private funding sources.
  • Manage a team of staff, attorneys and consultants, providing leadership, coaching, and professional development opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, including fair housing laws and environmental regulations.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners, including government agencies, lenders, investors, and community organizations.
  • Develop and manage budgets, ensuring financial sustainability of projects and the organization as a whole.
  • Represent Common Wealth Development in various public forums and media outlets.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments within the organization to achieve the overall mission and vision of Common Wealth Development.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in real estate development, urban planning, business administration, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in real estate development, with at least 3 years experience with a focus on affordable housing development.
  • Demonstrated experience in securing and managing public and private funding sources, including Section 42 Tax Credits and HOME funds.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience leading and motivating a team of staff and consultants.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with community partners, funders, and investors.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, with a deep understanding of the impact of race and systemic racism on affordable housing and affordable housing development.  
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to analyze complex financial and legal documents.
  • Experience with project management software and other relevant tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently, with a high level of initiative and self-motivation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Strong personal connections to low-income communities and communities of color.
  • Experience in subsidized housing administrative compliance.
  • Familiarity with basic tenets of racial justice and health equity in a housing context and creativity and innovation in housing solutions, visioning, and planning.
  • Working knowledge of financial accounting, financial reporting, and budgeting.
