COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF NORTH CENTRAL MASSACHUSETTS

The Community Foundation, located in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, manages charitable funds established by individuals, families, businesses and non-profit organizations that distribute to nonprofit organizations. It was formed to promote philanthropy in our region and support philanthropists investing in the communities and causes they care passionately about.

We also make annual grants from our discretionary funds to nonprofit organizations serving the 33 communities of North Central Massachusetts in the areas of the environment and animal welfare, education and career readiness, community enrichment, organizational development, critical community needs, and community health.

POSITION OVERVIEW

This position will have responsibility for overseeing all aspects of grant-making related to our discretionary grant programs.  The Community Foundation currently manages grant programs in six

program areas representing about $500,000 in annual grants to as many as 60 grantees. The Grants and Impact Manager will execute the grant application and selection process for each program area, engage grantees and grant committee members, and monitor and report on the impact of our grants.

The position reports to the President/CEO of the Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Grant Application Management

  • Manage process soliciting and supporting organizations in an online grant application process;
  • Support grant committees in the review and finalist selection process;
  • Execute grant agreements with selected organizations;
  • Regularly seek feedback from applicants and grant committees to improve the application process; Update and improve online grant application system to continuously improve efficiency and quality of applications and selection process.

Grantee Engagement & Impact Monitoring and Reporting

  • Work with grantees to develop benchmarks and reporting requirements;
  • Develop grantee reporting mechanisms;
  • Review grantee reports and assess grantee performance;
  • Synthesize grantee impact reports into meaningful communications regarding the impact of philanthropic investments;
  • Develop opportunities to deepen grant committee members’ knowledge of their program area and local needs and opportunities.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

The ideal candidate will have skills and experience commensurate with an advanced college degree plus three or more years of applicable experience including:         

  • A strong entrepreneurial spirit;         
  • Understanding of and/or interest in philanthropic and non-profit sector programs;·        
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively;         
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with a variety of organizations and individuals;         
  • Confidence in developing, executing, interpreting, and delivering data research projects;        
  • Professional and personable in your approach to community and partner engagement activities;       
  • Exceptional communication skills; both written & verbal         
  • Ability to work autonomously & collaboratively within a small team;
  • Microsoft Suite skills;        
  • Detail-oriented; and
  • Flexibility to travel around the region regularly.
