MIMS seeks a Program Coordinator that will be primarily responsible for planning and managing the Health Scholars Program and Summer Internship Program, in addition to day-to-day administrative tasks. This position is perfect for someone interested in working with high school and college students in a health-focused non-profit.

About the Health Scholars Program

The goal of the Health Scholars Program is to expose young men of color and alternative school youth to a variety of health professions, while providing them tools and resources to help achieve their personal and professional goals in a real world and relatable framework. Students also receive hands-on clinical experience and have the opportunity to network with health professionals.

About the Summer Internship

The purpose of the summer internship is to expose high school, college and post-baccalaureate students to hands-on clinical experience in a variety of health settings. MIMS participants are immersed in direct patient observation, shadow clinicians, interact with health professionals and attend daily leadership development seminars.

Position Description

Duties include, but are not restricted to the following:

  • Recruitment and retention of program applicants
  • Curriculum development and maintenance
  • Scheduling and securing program activities and logistics including (but not limited to) guest speakers, field trip sites, catering and transportation
  • Provide advising and other support to program participants, as needed
  • Develop and implement program evaluation materials, such as pre and post program surveys
  • Supervising program intern(s) and/or associates
  • Draft program reports
  • Manage program communication tools, such as email contact lists, Facebook account and website
  • Maintain and establish new partnerships with CBOs, schools, health systems, individual volunteers and other partners

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited 4-year university (Pre-health candidates encouraged to apply)
  • Experience with program coordination required
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, preferably with youth
  • Demonstrated commitment to youth development and increasing diversity in the health workforce
  • Experience with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to take direction and work independently on assigned tasks
  • High degree of drive, initiative and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Experience with event planning or developing curriculum is highly desired, but not required

  • Reliable transportation highly encouraged
