SUMMARY: NCC has a 65-year history of providing exceptional service to our community and is experiencing an exciting time of growth. The Development Associate role is a newly created position.  The Development Associate is responsible for providing support to the Development Director, CEO, Board, and other organizational leaders in order to generate revenue from individuals, foundations, government agencies, and corporations, as well as earned income strategies. The Development Associate will maintain the development database, maintain and track a grants calendar, assist in cultivating relationships and all forms of communication with donors and prospects, and provide administrative assistance to the department as requested.

REPORTS TO:  Director of Development

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed in this position.  This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Manage donor database, including consistent and accurate data entry, gift reporting, donor acknowledgment, and fundraising reports. 
  • Collaborate with finance staff to ensure accurate processing, reconciliation, tracking, and recognition of grants and donated funds. 
  • Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Conduct proactive research on current and potential individual donors and grantmaking funders. 
  • Serve as grants project manager by preparing proposals and coordinating associated materials for timely submission of proposals. Oversee and track all grant milestones including, but not limited to; proposals in development, proposals submitted to funders, proposals that have been issued or canceled, deliverable deadlines, communication, and awards, ensuring that all content is always complete and up to date.
  • Support the Director of Development, CEO and revenue-generating staff to prepare for stakeholder meetings, including research, as directed.
  • Implement a stewardship program for all donors. 
  • Support print and online communications to supporters (fundraising campaigns, newsletters, social media). Collaborate with communications and marketing staff on social media and other communication vehicles. 
  • Assist and help project manage major events, including coordinating vendors, volunteers, attendees, and various event details.
  • Provide excellent customer service, including constantly keeping up-to-date on incoming emails and calls, follow-up, and follow-through.
  • Complete deliverables with a hands-on approach, including drafting letters and emails, and other tasks needed to assist in all fundraising efforts.
  • Perform basic administrative duties such as filing, data entry, and maintaining a filing system.
  • Other duties as assigned

      

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS(Required to perform essential functions)

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated experience working with integrated Donor Management software; experience with Salsa Labs preferred but not required.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills, including strong listening skills.
  • Organizational and project management skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google docs applications.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service approach when interacting on the phone, via email/text, and in-person, with donors, board members, volunteers, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as a highly resourceful team player under pressure and within deadlines.
  • Creative and innovative thinker, who actively presents new opportunities, proposes solutions and recommends best practices.
  • Ability to work creatively and with flexibility in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high work standards. 
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion.
  • Schedule flexibility to attend occasional evening and weekend events.       

            

EDUCATION: 

Bachelor’s degree preferred and/or 3-4 years experience in non-profit development or related roles.
