BACKGROUND & POSITION SUMMARY

The National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) is the leading national voice for dignity and fairness for domestic workers in the United States. Founded in 2007, NDWA works for the respect, recognition, and inclusion in labor protections of domestic and home care workers across the country. NDWA is winning improved working conditions while building a powerful movement rooted in the human rights, dignity and equality of domestic workers, home care workers, immigrant women and Black women.


NDWA was founded in 2007 by domestic workers and organizers from around the country. Our national alliance has grown from a founding group of 13 organizations to now more than 60 affiliate organizations, plus local chapters developed by NDWA in Atlanta, Durham, Washington DC and New York City, and individual members from states without affiliates or chapters to join. To date, the Alliance is comprised of more than 70,000 nannies, housekeepers, and home care workers in 44 cities and 20 states.


NDWA seeks a Culture Change Manager --an organized, proactive and creative professional who will support our efforts to leverage the power of culture, including art and storytelling, to change how society perceives and treats women and people who do domestic work. The Culture Change Manager will work to elevate the visibility of compelling issue and character driven stories of domestic workers, women of color and immigrant women in popular culture. This individual cares deeply about social justice and has entertainment industry and/or culture change experience and insight. We’re looking for a seasoned professional who works well independently and also on a team, has a track record of execution and implementation of strategy in an organized and efficient way and is an active problem solver. In this role, you will support strategic and creative partnerships with individuals and entities, project manage culture change campaigns and develop creative storytelling opportunities. If you’re a versatile multi-tasker who enjoys a creative brainstorm as much as a strategic one, and can switch from project management to writing to networking in the course of a day- this job is for you. 

PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Develop strategies, tactics and content that advance NDWA’s culture change priorities 
  • Develop new and manage existing strategic and creative partnerships with high profile individuals, influencers, companies and allied organizations
  • Project management of culture change campaigns, events and creative projects
  • Manage consulting projects with film and TV entities
  • Organize NDWA participation in industry events 
  • Media monitoring of pop culture, film/tv/streaming for relevant opportunities
  • Supervise consultants and interns

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least three years of experience in the entertainment industry, cause marketing or comparable pop culture institution and/or experience in the culture change/pop culture for social impact field
  • Strong project management skills and prior experience implementing campaigns with a strong digital component and robust storytelling/creative
  • Track record of forming and managing strategic and creative partnerships
  • Strong time and people management skills, including demonstrated ability to think independently and work with limited supervision, flexibility, and tolerance of ambiguity
  • Able to create and maintain organized and detailed documents
  • Strategic and innovative; ready to proactively bring new ideas to the table
  • Proven ability to learn quickly, meet multiple deadlines and thrive in a rapid response environment 
  • Ability to work and collaborate with diverse staff, often remotely
  • Willingness to travel required
  • Alignment with NDWA’s vision and values, including a commitment to economic, racial and gender justice is required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required and Google Suite is a plus
  • Experience communicating with a team across multiple channels (Slack, What’s App, etc) is a plus
  • Experience in production and/or distribution of creative content a plus
  • Interest in audience research, behavior change and measuring impact a plus
