Organization Overview: VOCAL-NY is a grassroots membership organization working to create healthy and just communities by building power among people affected by HIV, drug use, mass incarceration, and homelessness. We do this through community organizing, leadership development, direct services, policy advocacy and direct action with the belief that true social change must come from the bottom up and be led by those most directly impacted.

This role is part of VOCAL-NY’s infrastructure team -- which is responsible for maintaining and strengthening the organization's administrative, human resources, fundraising, and communications work. 


Position Description: VOCAL-NY is seeking a reliable and  responsible Operations Associate to work at the reception desk in our Brooklyn headquarters and support day-to-day administrative duties for the organization.  The ideal candidate will be friendly, compassionate,  and  have the  ability to multitask. Bilingual (English / Spanish) is preferred. This position will join our Infrastructure Team to support various events and other administrative tasks as needed. 


Specific Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Answering phones and manage voicemail
  • Receiving and directing guests
  • Receiving and sorting mail
  • Data entry in a timely fashion with keen attention to detail
  • Ordering food for meetings & events
  • Distributing Metrocards to staff
  • Maintaining office supply inventory and ordering supplies as needed
  • Supporting travel arrangements
  • Other administrative duties as needed


Requirements / Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be an energetic, self-motivated individual who has strong interpersonal and problem solving skills. This is a public facing role, where everyday you are in direct contact with people with limited access to services and resources, who are experiencing street-homelessness, and who may be navigating different mental and emotional health challenges. This role requires patience, compassion, and a mindset that every person deserves dignity and respect. People directly impacted by drug use are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least 1-2 years of experience working in an office setting or strong background in customer service
  • A willingness to work in a fast-paced environment, with changing assignments. 
  • An ability to lead their own projects, and take initiative.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with common business software (e.g. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Gmail).

This is a full-time position. The position will require occasional attendance at evening meetings. 


Compensation: Starting salary of $53,000K. VOCAL-NY offers a generous benefits package of 20 vacation days, 12 wellness days, and 13 paid holidays and 2 week paid year end break in December, 100% employer-covered health, vision and dental insurance , 401k plan with 5% employer match, health and dependent care FSA, cell phone, and unlimited Metrocard.
