Overview

We are hiring 3 different College and Career Advisors. One to serve Alameda County, one to serve Contra Costa County and one to serve the South Bay.

The College and Career Advisor is responsible for counseling students to college and through the academic and social adjustments of college graduation and workforce transition after college. SRA is a growing organization; successful candidates will need to be flexible with additional duties resulting from expansion. SRA is committed to supporting a positive and diverse workplace to meet the needs of all of our students and encourage applicants with experience serving students from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities to apply.

Key Responsibilities include:

Rising Stars Program:

  • Provide mentoring support to a small cohort of students (not exceeding 8) who come from low-income backgrounds and possess depth of character overcoming odds not of their own making.
  • Assist students in filling out their financial aid forms and college applications.
  • Strong continued follow up with college applications, financial aid and college selection.
  • A commitment to work with the students for the 4-5 years it takes them to complete college.
  • Maintain regular contact with students via email, phone calls, and in person meetings.
  • Review and approve student requests for funds for tuition and school related expenses.
  • Prepare and lead meetings with the students covering topics including financial aid, financial literacy, college selection and what to expect in college, at least once a month.
  • Career guidance - resume, cover letters, interview prep and career coaching while students are in college.
  • Attend Mentor workshop and assist in facilitating Mentor/student relationship
  • Assist, attend and coordinate student’s attendance to the Gala and workshops.
  • Provide support and guidance in times of crisis.

Organizational Commitment:

  • Attend a SRA Team Meeting every other month in San Francisco at 5pm, 1 Advisor meeting monthly in your region at 4:30 for the Advisor meetings. These meetings are mandatory for all Advisors.
  • Participate in biweekly (every other week) Zoom meetings when applicable for professional development.
  • Must be available for 7-9 Saturdays throughout the year for student workshops.
  • SalesForce data entry for students at least 3X/week

Required Qualifications: 

  • Proven college counseling with high school and/or college students; Experience in Career Development also a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills; ability to reach out for help when support is needed.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of Salesforce is a plus.
  • Sense of humor
  • Excellent judgment and ability to coach students through difficult situations.
  • An ability to work both independently and in a group environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; 3+ years minimum of work experience.
