Lenox Hill Neighborhood House seeks a Deputy Director, Development and Communications, a new position, with a minimum of five to seven years of fundraising experience to join our Development and Communications team to help us to share our organizational vision and continue our advancement. Our Development and Communications team currently includes a Director of Philanthropy and Healthy Foods Initiatives, a Director of Individual and Corporate Giving, a Director of Special Events and a Development & Communications Coordinator, each reporting to the Executive Director. Together, we raise more than $5 million in private funds each year and seek to increase this amount dramatically. The Deputy Director, Development and Communications will raise significant philanthropic funds through their own efforts and manage the staff responsible for individual and corporate giving, special events and communications. This position will report to our Executive Director.


Lenox Hill Neighborhood House is a 124-year-old settlement house widely recognized as one of New York’s premier human services providers. Founded in 1894 as a kindergarten for immigrant children, the Neighborhood House now serves 15,000 low-income New Yorkers each year through a wide array of effective and integrated services – social, educational, legal, housing, health, mental health, nutritional and fitness. Our organizational budget is $18M-$20M; we have 200 staff members and more than 1,000 regular volunteers. Key Responsibilities

  • Help to lead a multifaceted fundraising strategy (major gifts, special and cultivation events, annual fund and other appeals, planned giving and capital and endowment campaigns)
  • Identify and cultivate major donors ($25k+), expand our donor base and increase giving among existing supporters
  • Conduct research and write proposals for funding
  • Inspire and lead a group of development and communications professionals
  • Represent us with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Collaborate with leaders throughout the organization, our Board and our community
  • Craft compelling narratives and communications
  • Help to set goals and track progress

The successful candidate will have had success in fundraising and will excel in a fast-paced, high-achieving environment. Compelling writing and visuals are important to us, so we are seeking an exceptional and enthusiastic writer and editor. It is essential that this individual possess the style, stature and interpersonal skills to work effectively with many of diverse backgrounds to bring Lenox Hill Neighborhood House to its next level of achievement.
