The Literacy Volunteers of Berkshire County is seeking its next Executive Director.

 Established in 1980, Literacy Volunteers of Berkshire County (LVBC) is a nonprofit organization that provides one-on-one English language tutoring for adult ESOL students and reading instruction for adult learners.

 The LVBC Director’s office is located inside the Berkshire Athenaeum, Pittsfield’s public library. The Executive Director will work 25 hours weekly, including periodic evening hours to meet the needs of clients. Background in or knowledge of community services is a plus. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are necessary. Knowledge of QuickBooks is helpful, though training can be provided. Applicants must be certified in BEST Plus testing or be willing to become certified.

 Responsibilities:

 ·       As part of the intake process, test new students for program placement and provide ongoing testing to determine and track progress.

·       Arrange for new tutor training, provide ongoing support for tutors, notify them of educational opportunities, and match students with tutors.

·       Apply for available grant funding and keep abreast of funding for the program from the State of Massachusetts and other sources.

·       Ensure payments are made for all bills associated with the program and enter information into QuickBooks. Complete and file monthly and quarterly tax forms (but not 990). Do all LVBC banking and transactions at the post office.

·       Report to the LVBC board and attend all board meetings.

·       Compile materials for and do mailings to tutors and LVBC supporters by email or postal service. In this capacity, coordinate annual solicitation of donors and maintain donor spreadsheet. Follow up with letter of acknowledgement to donors.

·       Maintain contact with web developer to update website as needed, especially for notifications of tutor training sessions and fundraising events such as mini-golf, 30-in-30, and annual online action. Update LVBC Facebook page.

·       Attend community meetings on behalf of LVBC and attend meeting for Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts. Speak to media and make appearances on behalf of LVBC (radio, TV, print).

·       Maintain LVBC resources library. Vet and add new print and online materials as needed to be accessed by tutors.

·       Serve as liaison to the Berkshire Athenaeum, especially around training and special events.

Credentials:

Bachelor’s degree required. Experience in education and/or administration preferred.

 Salary Range:

$24–$30/hr., commensurate with experience.
