The Development Director oversees the development function of the organization including individual giving, campaigns, grants, communications, and events. The Development Director plays an active role in Major Gifts, including outreach to and stewardship of major donors and law firms, as well as in the production of CAIR Coalition’s Annual Event. The Development Director is an energetic, results-driven fundraiser unafraid to roll up their sleeves and create new revenue-generating opportunities for the organization. 

The Development Director works closely with the Development Team to plan and execute the organization’s annual Development Plan including fundraising, grants, and communications.

The Development Director serves a pivotal leadership role at CAIR Coalition, working closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Development Team to develop and implement a proactive, innovative fundraising strategy to support CAIR Coalition’s work and advance organizational values.

General Duties & Responsibilities: 

Fundraising – Major Donors and Foundations

  • Create and implement strategies to meet annual and long-term fundraising goals, including the diversification of funding streams, implementation of new campaigns, and execution of new initiatives
  • Design and implement all individual gift campaigns including but not limited to: Spring for Justice, Juntos X Más monthly giving program, 5K for Justice, End of Year campaign, etc. 
  • Identify, solicit, and steward a portfolio of at least 200 major donors
  • Implement creative strategies and tactics to steward current and prospective donors including programming, personal meetings, updates, and thanking 
  • Manage and track donor cultivation activities, providing monthly reports to the Executive Director and Development Team
  • Thanks to all major donors personally and/or ensure they are thanked by the Executive Director within the week
  • Working in tandem with the Development & Communications Officer, ensure all donors (grassroots and major) are received e-appeals, e-contents, physical mailings, regular thank-you calls, invitations to activities, etc. 
  • Oversee solicitation and stewardship of law firms, specifically around CAIR Coalition’s Annual Gala
  • Support the Development & Grants Manager in stewardship of foundation contacts and other support as needed.
  • Support the Executive Director in achieving all deadlines for government contracts.

Event Management 

  • Oversee the production of CAIR Coalition’s Annual Event, including:
  • Working closely with the Development and Communications Officer, conduct outreach to potential awardees, sponsors, and attendees
  • Coordination with necessary outside consultants/vendors
  • Establishment of a Run of Show and talking points, as needed
  • Other tasks as needed
  • Working closely with the Development & Communications Officer to coordinate and support additional events with community members as needed

Board Management

  • Serve as the primary and direct contact for the Board of Directors around development activities, working in tandem with each to encourage their own personal giving and fundraising efforts.
  • Schedule, oversee, and participate in calls every other month with the Board Fundraising Committee, including preparing and sending agendas in advance of each meeting
  • Prepare fundraising status reports for the Board of Directors to present at each meeting
  • Participate in Board Executive Committee meetings when requested by the Executive Director

Management & Supervision

  • Manage and guide development staff to ensure that development strategies and projects are executed successfully
  • Conduct weekly in-person check-ins with development staff
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for professional growth, including seminars and classes to further enhance knowledge of best fundraising and stewardship practices
  • Support development staff in their communications role.

General duties

  • Devise and implement strategic plans to advance the organization across all buckets including developing a targeted communications strategy to donors/supporters, implementing deliberate donor asks and thanks, creatively expanding grant prospect pools. 
  • Ensure development strategies are in line with the progress of the broader immigrants’ rights movement.

Compensation

The salary for this position is $90,000 to $120,000, commensurate with experience

Position Location

This position is based from the Washington, D.C. Office.

 COVID-19 Disclaimer

This is a full-time in-person position, located in Washington D.C. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all CAIR Coalition staff are currently working remotely. It is anticipated that staff will work from their home office starting November 2021. This date is subject to change.
