Maine Jung Center

Founded in 1988 in Brunswick, Maine, the Maine Jung Center is a membership-supported, non-profit organization offering lectures, workshops, courses, film nights, and discussion groups related to the ideas of C. G. Jung and depth psychology.

Position: Coordinator/Director 

Part-time, averaging 28 hours per week, year-round position. The Coordinator/Director is expected to work an average of 28 hours per week, with flexibility to accommodate larger work volumes as needed, without exceeding 40 hours a week.

The Coordinator/Director manages the day-to-day operations of the Center and reports to the Board of Directors. This includes working with the Board and committees to plan and organize the Center’s varied programs, managing communications, maintaining the website, and performing other related administrative duties. The Coordinator/Director must be well-organized, self-sufficient, able to multi-task and take initiative, and must enjoy interacting with members and the public in a calm and compassionate way. 

Primary Responsibilities (working closely with and under the direction of committee leadership: Program, Library, Communications, Finance, Personnel, and Membership)

Program: Working in conjunction with the Program Committee, the Coordinator/Director orchestrates all programs sponsored by the Jung Center.

  • Designs and prepares the semi-annual newsletter to include all program offerings; sets up and participates in newsletter mailing assemblies with Board and committee members
  • Arranges venue locations (in-person or online) for Center-sponsored programs
  • Coordination of program logistics (presenter contracts, travel, accommodations, speaker requirements)
  • On-site facility coordination (Audio-Visual, set-up, refreshments, volunteer direction) as needed
  • Enacts publicity plan for each event in conjunction with the Communications committee
  • Processes and monitors program registration
  • Manages post-program follow-up with attendees (including the making and sending of certificates of attendance, program evaluation forms, recordings (if applicable)), program presenters (sharing any relevant recordings and feedback, receiving comments), and Program Committee members (providing regular program reports, detailing attendance and program evaluation responses)
  • Coordinates docent program and assists with regular docent training

Communications: Working in conjunction with the Communications Committee, the Coordinator/Director helps publicize programs to the membership and greater community, maintains and updates (as needed) a coherent style guide/brand to be used in Center communications and materials. 

  • Regularly monitors and responds to all communications received via phone, mail, email, and social media (Facebook, Twitter)
  • Designs and schedules regular Mailchimp e-newsletters to mailing lists (~2-3 times/week)
  • Website maintenance and updates (in coordination with web developer); keeping registration pages, widgets, event calendars, homepage, donor recognition page, and other dynamic content pages up-to-date and functional
  • Online paid advertisement of major programs (Facebook) and other programs as needed and within budget

Membership: Working in conjunction with the Membership Committee, the Coordinator/Director maintains member relations and directs annual membership renewal process.

  • Maintenance of membership/fundraising/program database (Little Green Light)
  • Preparation and design of annual membership renewal mailing materials; facilitates mailing assemblies with Board and committee members
  • Assistance with special events for members (i.e. Members’ Eve, Members’ Corner)
  • Communicates with new members to provide handbooks and establish point of contact
  • Monitors retention and new membership data trends and regularly reports to Membership Committee and Board 
  • Ensures that the Center has a warm, welcoming presence in the community

Finance: Working in conjunction with the Finance Committee and external bookkeeper, the Coordinator/Director has fundamental bookkeeping and annual fundraising responsibilities.

  • Assists with the maintenance of financial records; gift entry into contact database
  • Assists the Finance Committee in preparing annual budget, as well as program budget with attendance estimates
  • Monitors bank accounts, as well as budget line items, and communicates regularly with the Treasurer to make sure Center operations remain tenable and consistent
  • Preparation and design of annual fundraising appeals’ mailing materials (content written by Committee); facilitates mailing assemblies with Board and committee members
  • Preparation and mailing of individual gift acknowledgements
  • Ensures all taxes, charitable license renewals, insurances, and other annual dues/fees/subscriptions are filed and recorded properly and in a timely manner
  • Makes bank deposits, pays vendors (prints checks and coordinates with a Board officer to sign/authorize), regular entry of sales/donation receipts in QuickBooks 

Daily Operations: The Coordinator/Director manages general office operations.

  • Maintains the Center’s space and office/program supplies
  • Regular maintenance, updates, backup, and organization of digital files on local computer and Google Drive, Google Calendar entries (programming, Board and Committee meetings) 
  • Attends Board and committee meetings (especially Program, Communications, Membership, Finance) and provides administrative support where/as needed
  • Keeps regular Center hours (barring closure due to pandemic, etc.) for community access to the Center’s collection (library), facilitates the library lending system for members, coordinates any in-person book donation drop-offs, assists and compassionately interacts with any walk-ins

Position Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • The ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with excellent attention to detail
  • Knowledge of or passionate interest in learning about the work of C. G. Jung and depth psychology
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully, to work well independently, and develop productive working relationships with people from a variety of backgrounds
  • Able to work a variable work schedule, with occasional work on evenings and weekends
  • Experience coordinating events a plus
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher), Google Suite (Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Groups), QuickBooks, Zoom, MailChimp, Little Green Light, or similar software
  • Social media and website (WordPress and plugins: WooCommerce, myEventOn, Charitable)
  • Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Acrobat) experience a plus


Hours, Compensation, and Work Environment

The Center is open on a consistent schedule, three or four days each week, for 4-6 hours per day, or else by appointment. However, we do offer some flexibility of hours, as well as the opportunity to occasionally work from home. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Center has been open by appointment only. The work environment is quite busy, but friendly, professional, humorful, and compassionate. Casual/business casual dress.
