Expanded Horizons College Success Program is a comprehensive eight-year program which is designed to ensure that high school students are college-ready and admitted to a college that fits their interests and abilities, and graduate from that institution on time. Our eight-year cohort-based model allows high school students to benefit from college readiness programming that includes SAT preparation, college readiness workshop, overnight college tours and career/college counseling. Designed as a program to help meet student financial need, Expanded Horizons students accrue scholarship dollars for every year they participate fully in the program to be used while in college.

The Expanded Horizons College Success Program seeks to hire a 9th grade youth development facilitator that is able to build curriculum and facilitate year round lessons on Leadership and Self-Advocacy for 9th graders.


This role requires a commitment of 5-6 hours per week that includes 3 hours of facilitation at a rate of $20-$25 per hour, depending on experience. Facilitator will be expected to lead groups on Mondays from 4-7 p.m.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required with preference given to education and human services related fields.
  • At least 3 years of experience teaching or facilitating workshops for NYC high school-aged youth.
  • Demonstrate understanding of and practice the principles of positive youth development.
  • Strong commitment to supporting the academic achievement and access to higher education of young adults who are low income, immigrants and/or will be the first in their families to attend college.
  • Ability to engage and inspire a diverse group of students.
  • Experience facilitating and developing experiential learning programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and work collaboratively.
  • Highly self-motivated and creative.
  • Ability and willingness to have fun in the classroom.
  • Understand intersectionality as it pertains to race, gender, class, privilege and other identities.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and facilitate weekly Leadership and Self-Advocacy workshops for 9th graders focused on topics relevant to first-generation college students transitioning to college.
  • Build strong and authentic relationships with students.
  • Structure and lead culminating program events.
  • Participate in weekly check-ins with Director.
  • Ensure consistent attendance and learning outcomes for each session are met.
  • Document and review student learning progress through surveys and check-ins with students.
