Illinois Partners for Human Service is seeking an energetic Director of Grassroots Partnerships to join our team, who will be focused on amplifying the work of our coalition partners in Chicago. With 400 health and human service organizational partners in the Chicago region, this position will prioritize building relationships with our smaller community-based organizations, serving areas of the city that have been the most hard-hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. A successful candidate for this position is an individual who is detail-oriented and able to juggle multiple projects, is willing to get out there in the community and build powerful relationships, and has an interest in working with human service organizations and engaging in organizing for change on the local, city and state level. An ideal candidate is someone with an extensive community organizing experience, connections to human service organizations and grassroots movements in Chicago, who is rooted in a deep commitment to racial and social justice.  

Illinois Partners Director of Grassroots Partnerships will organize and strengthen the capacity of our Chicago-based community organizations, prioritizing those serving areas of the city that have been hard-hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. This role will incorporate an equity lens to better understand health and human service delivery in these areas, so that we can amplify the work of community-led organizations and influence the way the state and other stakeholders invest in well-being and address inequity. The position will prioritize listening and learning from our coalition partners, and connecting these partners to local grassroots movements to facilitate collaboration and partnership. This position will also prioritize amplifying the work of small, community-driven organizations, with a focus on those led by BIPOC and serving black and brown communities in Chicago. We are looking for a candidate with pre-established connections to community-based organizations and grassroots movements, who will be able to start organizing in areas of the city with which they are already familiar, with particular priority given to the South and/or West sides of Chicago.

RESPONSIBILITIES

·      Work with Executive Director to connect with, learn from, and provide support to those organizations serving communities hard-hit by the COVID-19 pandemic; smaller community-based organizations; organizations lead by BIPOC and serving black and brown communities. 

·      Gather information and best practices, connect organizations in similar geographical areas through the establishment of local area councils

·      Partner with grassroots movements to better facilitate collaborations with the human service sector and mutual aid entities, faith-based networks, neighborhood collaboratives, etc

·      Work within systems of service delivery to share best practices with other community organizations and policy makers

·      Represent the perspective of our coalition partners on Illinois Partners Policy Committee

·      When helpful and necessary, connect local organizations to key stakeholders including funding opportunities, local aldermen and state representatives. 

·      Organize panels to connect community organizations to other key stakeholders, and educate the public on the value of human services

·      Work with coalition partners to collect data for research reports highlighting the effects of COVID-19 and needs in the communities they serve

·      Prepare written reports, meeting summaries, press releases, and related materials as they pertain to the work

·      Meet with and present to funders about the impact of our work in the City of Chicago

·      Assist in identifying and drafting grant proposals and reports, and prepare leaders for site visits  

·      Plan and execute logistics for community outreach events and strategies to recruit new institutional and organizational members

QUALIFICATIONS

·      Minimum of five years of community organizing experience, particularly around social and racial justice

·      Familiarity with a diverse range of organizing tactics and strategies

·      Excellent written and verbal communication ability, as well as strong interpersonal skills

·      Proven ability to work with a diverse constituency, across lines of race, economics, nationality, sexual orientation, age, religion and other differences

·      Deep interest in building relationships with leaders of community-led human service organizations

·      Takes initiative and charge of their schedule and work; ability to meet deadlines

·      Demonstrated commitment to the profession of community organizing

·      Familiarity with and connections to human service organizations on the south and/or west sides of Chicago

·      Fluency in Spanish is a plus
