Description

A Bed for Every Child Initiative: For the last five years A Bed for Every Child, an Initiative of the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless, has been providing beds to children growing up in poverty throughout our state. When you think of childhood poverty, you don't often think of a child going without a bed. Although, we have learned that all too often this is the case. Children are sleeping on the floor, couch or doubled up with a sibling or their parent(s) simply because a bed is financially out of reach. We receive daily referrals from teachers, social workers, guidance counselors, places of faith, family agencies, and other non-profits while partnering with public schools to identify children in need and we deliver this gift directly to their doorstep. For every $250 raised A Bed for Every Child is able to make a new bed available to a child in need. A Bed for Every Child is currently receiving an average of 200 referrals per month and our projected number of deliveries has catapulted to 2,400 over the course of the year.

Build A Bed: To meet the growing need for beds as well as the financial support to make it possible A Bed for Every Child launched Build A Bed. This program works with corporations, businesses, places of faith and schools to sponsor teams of people to come together to build twin beds. In the first six months over 500 people have participated in building beds.
