Job Description

Project Hearts is a grassroots non-profit aimed at community empowerment, and this role could offer you the chance to cultivate your leadership skills as you help shape programs that meet the evolving needs of Baitoa.

Project Hearts is on a mission to educate the people of Baitoa, DR so that they might have the knowledge & resources needed to transform their own communities and enhance their quality of life. We’re looking for a highly skilled & motivated Program Manager to help us grow our impact & effectiveness. 

Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Program Manager (PM) will have responsibility for organizing & developing programs & activities that support Project Hearts’ strategic direction. Key duties of the PM include inspiring staff to efficiently achieve objectives, finding creative solutions to community problems, creating & managing short- and long-term goals, collecting & analyzing data to monitor program effectiveness, and contributing to fundraising & budgeting efforts. Above all, he or she will be comfortable in a leadership role that demands clear communication, decisiveness, and a contagious energy & passion for empowering others.


Requirements and Qualifications

• Desire to provide quality programs & services that will help to sustainably develop the communities of Baitoa, DR and improve the quality of life for residents

• Fluent in Spanish (written and spoken)

• At least 3 years of experience working in a management or leadership position

• Experience working with a non-profit organization & knowledge of related management & leadership principles

• Strong computer skills, including use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher (or comparable programs) and basic tech repair/troubleshooting

• Solid organizational & time-management skills, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation

• Strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills

• Multidisciplinary project skills

• Ability to envision and convey the organization’s mission & strategic future to the staff, board, volunteers, donors and overall community

• Experience developing & implementing new programs based on community needs

• Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation

• Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting

• Experience setting budgets and ensuring adherence to them

• Ability to communicate in a timely manner with all stakeholders

Preferred Skills and Experience

• English (written and spoken) 

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in business administration, public health, engineering, or related field

• Experience working or living in a culture not native to you

• Knowledge of myriad topics, especially public health, women’s empowerment, healthy masculinity, W.A.S.H. (water access, sanitation, hygiene), environmentalism, mental health, construction, small businesses, community development, etc.

• Familiarity with rural, developing communities, especially in Dominican Republic

• Permission to work legally in the Dominican Republic


Primary Job Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

Inspire staff to achieve the organization’s mission through programmatic excellence.

• Actively engage & energize staff and program beneficiaries

• Manage a culturally diverse staff whose skills, cultures, and spoken languages reflect the communities being served

• Develop, lead, coach & retain a high-performance management team

• Oversee hiring & retention of competent, motivated, highly qualified employees & volunteers by providing career coaching, education, and personal development

• Recommend timelines & resources to successfully accomplish program goals


Program Evaluation

Partner with Executive Director to collect, analyze, and report data & personal testimonies that demonstrate the successes or shortcomings of programs & activities.

• Ensure implementation of effective systems to track organizational & program progress

• Work with Executive Director to regularly evaluate program components for strengths & weaknesses

• Monitor & analyze indicators of programmatic success

• Collaborate with the Executive Director and staff to develop short- & long-term strategic plans that will guide program activities 

• Ensure programs & daily activities are supporting the fulfillment of the organization’s mission

• Ensure fiscal responsibility & integrity in program spending

• Participate in monthly, quarterly, and yearly budget reviews with Executive Director and appropriate staff

• Discern & advise or decide which requests for aid or program expenses align with organization’s mission & available resources


Fundraising & Communications

Support the Executive Director in preparing fundraising initiatives, including grant applications, special events, and campaigns addressed to individual donors. 

• Work with staff to collect data & testimonies that highlight the success & impact of Project Hearts’ programs

• Build relationships with individual donors, funding organizations, and grant-giving foundations

• Enhance the organization’s image by being active & visible in the community

• Develop partnerships with other professional, civic, and private organizations

• Regularly compose content to be shared via social media, newsletters, email campaigns, and annual reports

• Assist in planning special fundraising events
