Established by Congress in 1974, the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) is the country’s single largest funder of civil legal aid for low-income Americans. LSC currently funds 132 independent nonprofit legal aid organizations with more than 800 offices throughout the nation. LSC’s mission is to promote equal access to justice and provide grants for high-quality civil legal assistance to low-income Americans.
Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), assists the CFO in the management, administration, and implementation of the Office of Financial and Administrative Services (OFAS) business operations and functions. The Controller manages day-to-day operations of the accounting functions and the employees responsible for them. Among other duties, the Controller is responsible for the annual financial statement audit and for ensuring the timely and accurate reporting of accounting results each month. The position is located in Washington, DC, but will be performed remotely until the pandemic subsides.

A bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minimum of 10 years of progressive management responsibility and experience in the accounting and business functions of a non-profit. CPA licensure preferred. Strong knowledge of accounting theory, concepts and practices and ability to develop accounting policies and standards. Excellent critical and strategic thinker with ability to develop and implement strategic plans that improve business operations and efficiencies and reduce costs. Excellent working knowledge of GAAP standards for financial reporting. Thorough knowledge and experience of Controller’s functions, including fiscal responsibilities and internal controls. Extensive knowledge of automated accounting systems and relevant applications to develop and manage general ledger maintenance and reconciliation systems and operations. Strong project management skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, with advanced knowledge and proficiency with Excel and the demonstrated ability to create specialized spreadsheets. Experience with NetSuite and Solution 7 preferred.
