SOCIAL MEDIA AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT SPECIALIST (0.5FTE)

Job type: 20 to 25 hrs a week for 12 months, with possibility for long-term 

Compensation: FTE $50k-$54, depending on experience

Reports to: Executive Director & Creative Director

Sins Invalid is a disability justice centered performance project that incubates and celebrates artists with disabilities, centralizing artists of color and queer and gender-variant artists as members of communities who have been historically marginalized. Conceived and led by disabled people of color, we develop and present cutting-edge work where normative paradigms of "normal" and "sexy" are challenged, offering instead a vision of beauty and sexuality inclusive of all individuals and communities. We present multidisciplinary performances by people with disabilities for broad audiences; organize performance workshops for community members with and without disabilities; and offer political education trainings for community based and educational organizations that share our commitment to social justice principles as a means of integrating analysis and action around disability, race, gender, and sexuality.

The Social Media and Community Engagement Specialist will work in collaboration with the Executive and Creative Director to promote Sins Invalid’s mission, programs, and events to the greater disability justice community. The Social Media and Community Engagement Specialist will achieve this by increasing Sins Invalid’s social media presence, through engagement with the community virtually via social media and attendance of in-person events once such events are COVID-safe.  

Key Responsibilities:

Social Media Presence 

• Generate and publish consistent, dynamic content on social media platforms (Facebook, IG, Twitter), website and blog which reflect and amplify the impact of our vision, mission, and Disability Justice principles
• Collaborate with Sins Invalid staff members to coordinate shared content and elicit feedback as needed 
• Optimize Sins Invalid’s social media platforms and website to increase visibility and accessibility
• Build relationships with influencers and movement partners
• Under direction of the Development Team, implement online giving strategies including leveraging online social networking for fundraising purposes
• Continuously improve engagement by tracking new trends, gauging cultural responsiveness, analyzing social data/metrics, and best practices
• Respond to inquiries from website and social media platforms

Virtual Event Support 

• Create events on Facebook Live, Zoom, YouTube, IG, Twitter, etc
• Provide camera and sound set-up assistance for staff members
• Manage live events
• Troubleshoot logistical and tech issues

Community Engagement 

• Arrange and provide support for interviews, op-ed’s, and podcasts with Sins Invalid staff and contributing artists
• Attend Disability Justice community events and meetings representing Sins Invalid (virtually and/or in-person once this is COVID-safe)
• Represent Sins Invalid’s mission, vision, and Disability Justice politics in community contexts.
• In collaboration with the Executive, Creative Director, and Sins Invalid artists, design and distribute promotional materials such as merchandise, programmes and flyers  

Build and Manage Communications Team 

• Recruit influencers from Sins Invalid community to assist with achievement of our social media strategic goals
• With other Sins Invalid staff, co-supervise interns doing projects in the realm of social media, including the Podcast Pilot Program 

And other duties, as assigned

Necessary Experience and Skills: 

• Prior experience in social media marketing or as a digital media specialist
• Demonstrated social networking experience and social analytics tools knowledge 
• Experience working in mixed ability, multiracial, multi-gendered environments, as well as in the Disability Justice movement sector and/or other related movement-based sectors
• Commitment to intersectional disability justice movement building
• Understanding of and commitment to anti-racist and anti-ableist principles and practices
• Understanding of and commitment to practicing cross-disability solidarity
• Experience in and commitment to using anti-capitalist frameworks to assess media and social media 
• Ability to work independently, on a team, and in collective/ collaborative settings
• Outstanding organizational and time management skills, including ability to set own goals/timelines and meet deadlines independently 
• Excellent and creative problem solving skills aimed toward finding solutions and supporting Sins Invalid team
• Superb written skills, accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to proof own work
• Exceptional interpersonal communication skills and commitment to collaborative conflict resolution
• Proficiency with Mac systems, Word, Excel and a variety of social media platforms

Desired Experience and Skills:

• 3 years of relevant social media experience for a community-based organization, non-profit, company, or professional organization.
• Proficiency writing/editing letters of intent, foundation proposals, donor letters and donor materials.
• Experience using FileMaker Pro, Adobe Creative Suite, and other design applications
