Job Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President & Chief of Staff, the Director of Development will coordinate fundraising efforts for the Center as it continues to grow. A new position in the organization, the Director will have the opportunity to build the Center’s development function and is critical to the successful implementation of the Center’s new strategic vision. The Director will work closely with the Center’s executive leadership and Board of Directors to create and implement a three-year professional fundraising plan. The Director will take the lead on identifying potential funding sources and creating opportunities for Center leadership to illuminate shared priorities between the Center and the funder, including civic learning for K-12 learners as well as adult and community groups, Constitutional education materials for the virtual space, rigorous programming in support of democracy with a national and international reach, and more. The Director will also design and manage the donor stewardship process, author grant proposals and reports, and lead donor data management.


Duties:

● Develop and execute The Center’s annual fundraising plan

● Secure financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations

● Manage the implementation of the new donor database and ensure its ongoing integrity

● Process all incoming contributions and acknowledge all donor gifts

● Prepare all donor and fundraising reports, providing dashboards to executive leadership, the Development Committee of the Board, managing and tracking major donors, preparing lists for appeals and other communications

● Implement and manage a robust donor stewardship program, utilizing board members to enhance the efforts

● Execute the strategy for a large, sustained base of annual individual donors utilizing multiple tactics, such as e-appeals, peer-to-peer fundraising, text giving, and other means, with particular emphasis on acquiring new donors

● Develop and track proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising

● Participate in government grant proposals and management, including drafting and editing proposals, managing proposal submission, overseeing reporting schedules and submissions, and liaising with granting agencies

● Additional duties and responsibilities as requested


Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:

● Bachelor’s degree required

● 3-5 years’ experience in fundraising for a non-profit

● Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills

● Hands-on knowledge of donor databases

● Knowledge of and passion for civic education

● Proven record of success cultivating supporters for existing and new initiatives

● Fluent with digital technologies, including but not limited to social media, Microsoft suite, Google suite, database management systems, and other critical tools to support the mission of the organization

● Creative thinker with ability to innovate within parameters

● Ability to work independently and as a member of a team

● Ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines

● Highly motivated and detail oriented
