Primary Functions: The Accounting Director is responsible for maintaining the financial records and day to day financial operations of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School (CRJHS) and related entities, collaborating with other executive and administrative leaders, and maintaining third party relationships that are critical to the financial management of the school.

Organization Summary

Cristo Rey Jesuit High School (CRJHS) is a rapidly growing high school located in the Phillips neighborhood of south Minneapolis. Our mission is to serve and educate under-resourced students and families in the Jesuit tradition as a Catholic, College and Career Preparatory School. CRJHS serves 500 students with 65 employees and a budget of approximately $6.5 million.

CRJHS is part of an expanding national Cristo Rey Network where each student works one day per week in an entry-level corporate job to develop technical and professional skills while earning half the cost of their education. There are currently 32 similar high schools across the country, with additions each year. Collectively, the Network serves over 11,000 students in high school, with over 11,000 graduates in college. The Network goal is for 70% of graduates to achieve a college degree within six years of high school graduation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

-         Maintain general ledger balances and accruals in accordance with GAAP and perform all aspects of month end close

-         Prepare accurate and timely monthly internal financial statements and departmental reports

-         Prepare quarterly financial statements and supporting financial information for board meetings

-         Support President and COO at executive leadership and board committee meetings as needed

-         Administer the annual budget process with input from all business operational and administrative areas

-         Prepares, interprets and communicates data and information to support financial analysis and decision making

-         Forecast cash flow and develop processes to ensure sufficient cash is available for operational and investment needs

-         Manage accounts receivable function, invoice families and student internship sponsors, and follow up on past due accounts

-         Prepare weekly batch check runs, reconcile vendor accounts, and respond to external inquiries

-         Manage all routine accounting and finance processes

-         Supervise and lead accounting clerk in daily operations and regular one on one meetings

-         Support and monitor submission of reimbursement claims to government entities for educational supplies and services

-         Evaluate tuition reduction requests and communicate decisions wisely

-         Manage business insurance claims

-         Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures

-         Process payroll timely and accurately ensuring all time, wages and benefits are properly reflected

-         Prepare all supporting information for the annual audit and liaise with external auditors

-         Prepare and submit annual regulatory filings and Cristo Rey network reporting to ensure the organization is in good standing

-         Maintain financial reporting for Lake & 4th joint venture.

-         Other ad-hoc requests as needed


·        Four-year degree in Accounting or related field required

·        CPA preferred

·        5+ years progressive accounting experience required; supervisory experience preferred

·        Strong technology skills, Microsoft Office proficiency required

·        Comprehensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and working knowledge of internal controls

·        Spanish communication skills preferred

·        Analytical, investigative and organizational skills

·        Detail oriented and well organized to maintain accurate records in a fast paced environment

·        Must possess strong leadership skills including the ability to give work direction, lead and promote team work throughout the organization

·        Must have strong communication skills (listening, speaking and writing) in order to train staff, outside auditors and programs

·        Interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, firmness, the ability to provide constructive criticism, and to teach others are essential
