Job Summary: 

Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, the After-School Coding Specialist will plan, organize, and implement a Computer Coding Program for WHEDco’s 3rd through 8th grade participants. The Specialist will work with primarily a beginner-level group. Each program should focus on basics and fundamentals, with special attention to activities that will strengthen and enhance logic and reasoning skills, self-esteem, foster positive expression and enhance the personal growth of program participants.

Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of the Program Director and working in conjunction with other staff, develop and implement a Coding Program.
  • Lead classes that encourage active participation, foster positive expression and build self-esteem and personal growth.
  • Assist in the planning of workshops and special events.
  • Create lesson plans and select necessary supplies.
  • Attend all necessary staff development training.
  • Attend all required staff and planning meetings.
  • Take on special assignments that pertain to the goals and objectives of WHEDco’s youth programs, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years’ professional experience working with children in a classroom, after-school, or community-based environment leading or organizing coding activities. 
  • Familiarity with the principles of coding instruction.
  • Able to work Mondays through Thursdays from 3:00pm-5:00pm beginning in October, as well as devote time to curriculum planning and preparation outside of program hours.
  • Well organized, able to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
  • Current, active college enrollment or college degree preferred.
  • Previous work experience in low-income communities preferred.


Competitive hourly rate based on experience. This is a part-time, hourly position.


All new hires must provide proof of having received at least one dose of a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) authorized COVID-19 vaccine by their first day of employment, and proof of full vaccination within 30 calendar days.
