Summary: Blue School is a dynamic and fast-growing school located in a 36,000 square feet. standalone building in Lower Manhattan with plans for expansion to additional nearby locations, building a total of 60,000 square feet.

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

1. Uphold the values of the school and ensure all work supports the mission of the school.

2. Perform daily maintenance rounds as assigned by the Facilities Manager and report conditions

3. Assist Facilities Manager in the maintenance of the fire safety program

4. Assist Facilities Manager in securing vendors, ordering supplies, and maintaining compliance documentation as needed.

5. Support the Facilities Manager as needed:

● Have advanced working knowledge of building systems (i.e. HVAC, Fire Alarm, Security Alarm, Electrical, plumbing, etc.)

● Assist with daily cleaning, trash removal, recycling, etc.

● Building and grounds maintenance

● Set-up / tear-down for events

● Assist with lunch duty

6. Availability to respond in emergency situations, including during ‘off hours’ and holiday breaks

7. Attend weekly team meetings

8. Additional duties as reasonably related to this role


1. Maintenance and Repair skill set (Minimum 5 years experience)

2. Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory compliance

3. Computer literate

4. Relevant FDNY certificates of fitness (F-01, F-03, S-12, S-13, S-95)

5. Flexibility in schedules, i.e. working holiday breaks or weekends for special projects

6. Ability to read and write English, sit or stand for long periods of time, bend, climb and stoop

7. Additional items are reasonably related to this role 


1. Self-motivated team-player with excellent organizational and communication skills

2. Strong communicational skills, able to provide clear and concise details regarding building issues to variety of constituents

3. A good decision maker and problem solver

4. Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and detailed orientated in a busy work environment

5. 5 years experience in a similar function preferred
