Reporting to the General Counsel, the paralegal will assist on a wide range of legal matters relating to City Year’s operations. Legal issues likely to arise include contracts, intellectual property, labor and employment, governance, real estate, and litigation. Qualified applicants must be adept at performing research using general and legal online research tools (e.g., Social Law Library, Westlaw, and LexisNexis), be able to contribute to solutions by taking the initiative to develop recommendations, and offer suggestions to improve work processes and/or projects. Administrative duties such as scanning documents, proofreading, preparing mailings, and coordinating travel, meetings and video-conferences will be required.
Contract Administration - The paralegal will perform responsibilities related to the school district contracting process, including: maintaining files for each contract and related modifications, amendments and supplements; preparing information to appropriate staff regarding contract status; and performing closing activities as needed.
Governance - The paralegal will perform responsibilities related to corporate governance in support of the Board of Trustees, Audit, Finance and Executive Committees, including preparing agendas, minutes, and other governance materials for the Board and Committees, managing communications to members of the Board and Committees, and coordinating with the team that maintains and manages Board related databases.
- Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate
- Minimum 3-5 years paralegal experience at a law firm or corporate legal department
- Proficiency in various applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Keen attention to detail
- Experience proofreading legal documentation
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, produce a high quality of work, and effectively communicate the status of projects in a timely manner
