About PAIR

Partnership for the Advancement and Immersion of Refugees (PAIR) empowers refugee youth to navigate American society, reach their academic potential, and become community leaders through educational mentoring programs. PAIR works with newcomers from shortly after their arrival in the United States, through high school graduation and beyond.

Position Details

The Global Learners program is seeking a Program Coordinator to facilitate after-school & individual mentoring programs that build academic and life skills, high school readiness, social and emotional skill development, and cultural orientation. The PC will serve after-school and individual mentoring programs for students of Las Americas Newcomer School. This position is from September, 2021, through May, 2022. 

Schedule: Monday/Wednesday 3:00-6:30 pm & Friday 10:00 am – 12:00 pm in program; additional hours as needed for program preparation, outreach, and special events.

Program Goals

Global Learners serves refugee middle school youth, providing cultural orientation, social and emotional support, life skills and academic development. Global Learners offers group and individual mentoring options for out-of-school curriculum and homework help. Youth will be exposed to new ideas and opportunities and develop a valuable support network of peers and mentors.

Position Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and facilitate after-school programs on Mondays and Wednesdays and individual mentoring programs during the Friday lunch hour
  • Work with Program team to ensure program objectives are met
  • Supervise after-school volunteers and individual mentors by providing direction and feedback
  • Recruit students by attending school events, soliciting referrals from partner schools, and conducting classroom and home outreach
  • Facilitate field trips and special events
  • Collect student enrollment forms, demographic surveys, baseline and endline surveys, and any other required paperwork

Qualifications

  • Some college experience required; Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree preferred
  • Experience working or volunteering directly with youth
  • Knowledge of or previous work with refugee populations preferred
  • Knowledge of a refugee language preferred (Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Tigrinya, Farsi, French, Spanish, or other)
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; experience with Salesforce or other CRM a plus
  • Candidates will be required to undergo a background check with fingerprinting
  • Ability to work evenings and some weekends
  • Must have own vehicle with valid driver’s license and insurance; must be willing to travel to school and community sites, and transport students when needed

Additional Requirements

The position requires on-site work at partner schools and/or community locations, and at the PAIR office preparing for program. A successful candidate will be enthusiastic about youth work or education and comfortable working with a diverse and multi-cultural group.
