Position Summary:

The Program Manager will be responsible for programming, partnership management and Scholar Athlete staff management at school based sites located in partner public high schools. Program Managers are responsible for supporting Scholar Athletes core programming and service delivery of academic coaching and mentoring, health and wellness and postsecondary planning supports to high school students known as Zone members. Program Managers will manage/supervise a team of Program Coordinators/Assistants and will work across a number of schools to support direct service to Zone members. As the supervisors of Scholar Athletes school-based staff, Program Managers comprise a critical layer of management and as such will need to hold their teams accountable to meeting program participation and improvement outcomes as well as Scholar Athletes standards for professionalism and culture. Program Managers will also help Scholar Athletes build long-term relationships with our school partners and local community to support and enhance the program mission and goals.

Responsibilities: Management tasks will include but not be limited to:

  • Develop, manage, and coach 4-7 Program Coordinators/Assistants through daily contact, site visits to schools, weekly check-ins, beginning of year goal setting and planning, midyear and end of year performance reviews and professional development opportunities
  • Responsible for programming and Scholar Athlete staff management at school based sites within partner public schools
  • Capture best practices and share with the larger Scholar Athletes community to work towards continuous improvement
  • Conduct visits to each direct report in his/her Zone to ensure that all program targets, outcomes and standards are being met
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of program model, deliverables and site expectations regarding implementation of programming
  • Ensure program team has necessary tools and resources to build capability in progress monitoring, relationship management and service implementation
  • Responsible for cohort of school’s successful implementation of Scholar Athletes IMPACT program model
  • Provide coaching and observation to program staff to ensure successful execution of responsibilities
  • Oversight and management of team budgets
  • Ensure that direct reports meet all program and organizational expectations, including but not limited to participation outcomes, professionalism, tutor engagement and management, management and consistency standards, necessary administrative tasks, and monthly reporting and monitoring of key performance metrics across schools.
  • Cultivate and steward ongoing relationships with school officials, partners, and other key stakeholders across school based sites
  • Create clear, realistic, and measurable objectives for accomplishing Scholar Athletes goals, based on organizational priorities and Executive Leadership Team identified key performance indicators
  • Assist Scholar Athletes leadership by managing relationships with school officials, partners, and other key stakeholders
  • Significant understanding of the Scholar Athletes program to be able to represent and market Scholar Athletes as an organization in a professional and accurate way serving as a brand ambassador
  • Coach direct reports in their efforts to build relationships with headmasters, teachers, coaches, guidance counselors, other school-based staff, parents/guardians, school-based partners and other key stakeholders
  • Conduct mid-year and end-of-year performance reviews of direct reports
  • Manage staff by communicating consistently to integrate all staff within one set of cultural and professional norms
  • Assist in the design and execution of professional development meetings throughout the year
  • Track, analyze and report on quantitative and qualitative data related to progress towards key performance targets
  • Participate in site wide and position specific professional development initiatives
  • Ensure Program Coordinator and Program Assistant team is well developed, strong, connected to their work and the organization
  • Flexibility to accommodate the organizational priorities and needs at any given time

Professional Requirements:

Scholar Athletes is seeking a professional with a minimum of 2 years of successful work within a youth development context and/or urban public school system. S/he should also have experience working on an innovative team and/or program in a sophisticated organization with a reputation for excellence and high expectations. A demonstrable track record of self-initiative, organization, and passion for ‘giving back’ is essential. The ideal candidate will be a true leader who possesses strong managerial skills and who can adapt his/her management style to meet the needs of multiple direct reports; someone who is highly energetic and able to balance multiple competing priorities.

In addition s/he will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred)
  • A proven track record of success and demonstrated ability in managing relationships with diverse professionals and organizations, working effectively with various constituencies
  • A team builder with strong skills in supervision, management, and organization
  • An ability to motivate and direct a diverse group of professionals
  • An ability to receive and give feedback in a highly professional, constructive and diplomatic manner
  • A track record as an effective communicator; highly developed skills in writing and speaking; competence in creating reports, presentations, and performance evaluations
  • Adequate software skills, particularly with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • An ability to thrive in a fast-paced, data-driven environment
