Lead Software Developer

The Center for Responsive Politics (CRP), which runs the website OpenSecrets.org and is the nation's premier research group tracking money in U.S. politics and its effect on elections and public policy seeks a talented full-stack developer with proven experience designing and developing large scale applications. This person will take the lead in writing software that helps process and present data across a multitude of data sources and projects.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing development and testing of our Ruby on Rails website
  • Mentoring other developers
  • Building APIs
  • Writing ETL and automation scripts

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline with a minimum of 4 years of software engineering experience.
  • The ability to orient oneself within and work with legacy code written in a variety of programming languages (PHP, Python, Ruby, Javascript)
  • Experience managing a complex Ruby on Rails codebase
  • Experience testing a complex Ruby on Rails codebase
  • Knowledge of Object Oriented Design principles and best practices
  • Experience with frontend web technologies, such as JavaScript, jQuery, HTML and CSS
  • Experience building and consuming APIs, both REST and GraphQL
  • Experience writing ETL scripts to scrape data from various sources and get it into our databases
  • Enthusiastic about big data and the political process
  • Experience with cloud technologies such as Amazon Web Services
  • Experience with Jenkins or other CICD solutions
  • Experience with Docker
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, agile work environment with frequent changes
