The Tenement Museum is currently seeking a Development Operations Manager to join our full-time staff.  

Founded in 1988, the Tenement Museum tells the uniquely American stories of immigrants, migrants, and refugees in the ongoing creation of the United States. We are widely recognized as a model for narrative history, storytelling, and visitor engagement. The museum is housed in two historic buildings located on Orchard Street in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Guided by an educator, visitors can hear the site-specific stories of the former tenants of our buildings or explore the neighborhood through walking tours.

Position Description: Under the supervision of the Chief Development Officer, the Development Operations Manager is a key member of the development team. This position oversees all Altru and development-related database management and financial reporting for the development team, along with department marketing campaigns, including direct and email appeal strategy, and membership program acquisition and retention. Candidates must have at least one year of fundraising experience, outstanding judgment, organization, writing, and communications skills. 

·                Manage Altru database, development webpages, and development software programs to enhance departmental efficiency, optimize donor and member experience online, and create lists for gala and special event invitations, direct mail fundraising campaigns, email appeals, wealth screening, and donor recognition

·                Implement appropriate timely and accurate gift processing, membership renewal, and acknowledgement mailings and pledge reminders

·                Generate financial reports and performance analysis for the department, board and committees including monthly reconciliation reports, goal tracking and revenue projections

·                Serve as internal and external point person/liaison for individual membership benefit questions and troubleshooting, including processing memberships over the phone and managing the email inbox

·                In partnership with the Senior Development Manager, facilitate mail and email appeal efforts, including making key decisions around strategy, segmentation, scheduling, copy, and budgeting

·                Undertake research to identify major gift prospects, build donor/prospect profiles, provide comprehensive briefings to development and senior management staff, and maintain records in the Altru database

·                Participate in development events as needed

·                Other duties as assigned


Qualifications: 

·                 Bachelor’s degree and at least one year of fundraising or nonprofit organization experience

·                 Skilled in Altru or other fundraising software/database management systems, with the ability to design sophisticated queries

·                 Excellent judgment and critical thinking skills

·                 Ability to creatively problem solve and prioritize multiple deadlines

·                 Proficiency in MailChimp and Microsoft Office

·                 Internet-based research skills and familiarity with iWave, Foundation Center and GuideStar preferred

·                 Flexibility, a sense of humor, and an interest in historic New York and the immigrant experience

·                 Excellent organizational, research, oral and written communications skills
