Organizational Overview:

The SEIU Healthcare 1199NW Multi-Employer Training Fund (Training Fund) is a non-profit, labor/management partnership between eight major healthcare employers and the largest healthcare union in Washington State.  The Training Fund was formed in 2008 and is a statewide program that addresses the workforce needs of participating employers and supports the career, knowledge, and skill aspirations of SEIU Healthcare 1199NW members.  The Training Fund is sponsor of the state registered Health Care Apprenticeship Consortium (HCAC) and of the Virtual Healthcare Institute (VHI).


Position Overview: 

The Assistant Director for Coordination and Strategic Initiatives reports to the Deputy Director and supports the Executive Director and the overall leadership team to execute on critical strategy, timelines and outcomes. This position plays a key role in the coordination of the strategic activities of the Executive Director.   The Assistant Director will act as an advisor and thought partner, facilitating the leadership team’s progress on benchmarks and deliverables meeting the organization’s overall goals. The Assistant Director works closely in collaboration with each department (education services, communication, Washington State registered apprenticeship, and administration), assisting with planning and managing organization-wide projects and partnerships. The Assistant Director will provide expert level consulting capabilities in all functional areas to support the leadership team's strategic agendas while mitigating associated risks to resolution. You will work with teams both inside and outside the Training Fund to gather data, research and consolidate issues, summarize information and make recommendations with relevant stakeholders to advance the senior leaders' agenda. The Assistant Director will help prepare formal presentations for the Executive Director, collaborate in internal and external communications, and may represent the Executive Director’s position in meetings, committees, and inter-departmental functions and strategic initiatives as necessary.

Essential Job Functions: 

Incumbent must have the skills, abilities and judgment to perform the following essential job duties and responsibilities, with or without reasonable accommodation: 

• Provide support to the Executive Director in project management and administrative needs to ensures timely follow up of all action items and project completion including: 

o Ensures that the Executive Director is prepared for and has all necessary information and documents to support successful appointments external meetings, presentations and events, and upcoming deadlines;

o Drafts documents and concept papers or conducts research to further ED’s work in program and or development;

o Drafts and distributes project and system memoranda and communications and assist in providing timely responses;

o Provides updates and eyes on the ground for the Executive Director on outstanding projects, identifies issues, develops contingencies, and suggests remedies and plan options.

• Act as an advisor or thought partner including structuring undefined issues to resolution, researching issues, summarizing information, and working with relevant stakeholders to provide the Executive Director and Leadership Team with information and input supporting sound decision making.

• Provide leadership, consultation and analysis on cross-entity or cross-functional performance and strategic opportunities;

• Partner and collaborate with direct reports of the Executive Director to achieve functional area and organizational objectives;

• Conduct and Facilitate meetings with diverse staff and partners;

• Ensure the delivery of high-quality results on time;

• Act as a communication liaison between the Executive Director and direct reports, including providing advice and speaking for the Executive Director as necessary;

• Represent the Deputy and Executive Director point of view;

• Partner with a variety of individuals from external entities, stakeholders and partners on behalf of the Executive Director on projects and on strategic or tactical issues that require responses or resolution.

• Prepare formal presentations for the Executive Director as well as collaborate on internal and external communications.

• Develop and lead forums, as necessary, for staff to coordinate efforts across-entity or departments, including those for Continuous Improvement initiatives and building staff skills and effectiveness in support of the Education Fund’s goals and objectives.

• Drive internal planning processes associated with the development of overall organization’s goals and priorities;

• Support the planning, management and execution of key business processes associated with management, including but not limited to performance management, strategic planning, communications, and tactical initiatives. Apply process improvement methods and tools to improve and/or redesign organizational business processes.

• Lead and/or participate in high priority projects for the Deputy and Executive Director

Location:

This position is based at the Training Fund Office in Renton, Washington.  Portions of this role will be split between doing remote work and the Training Fund office.  Note: current COVID restrictions will require 95 – 100% remote work.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Strong Project Management experience required;

• 5 Years leadership and supervisory experience required;

• 3 Years background in Washington State registered apprenticeship leadership experience required

• 5 years background in workforce development leadership experience required; 

• Ability to make thoughtful decisions in a quick and decisive manner; 

• The ability to develop timelines and execute on time is critical;

• Excellent verbal, written, presentation and public speaking skills. Presents ideas, expectations, and information in a concise well-organized manner;

• Demonstrated leadership facilitating an organizations’ achievement of organizational goals and objectives on behalf of the executive;

• Experience leading large projects or overseeing regional programs such as complex improvement projects to identify and resolve issues of strategic importance;

• Ability to develop proposals outlining proposed project structure, approach and work plan;

• Ability to provide direction to content experts within program areas;

• The ability to work with diverse constituencies, maintain diplomacy, and negotiate successfully

• High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, databases and student information systems;

• Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to, and passion for, working in a mission driven organization;

• Commitment to personal growth and development on issues of racial equity and diversity, and to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion workforce access;

• Flexibility regarding hours; weekend and/or late hours will be required;

• Successful completion of background check is required;

• Valid Washington State Driver License and access to a reliable insured vehicle.

Desired Skills and Experience: 

• Experience or understanding of unions and ability to work in a labor/management environment.

• Experience working with and selling into c-suite leadership in health care settings, or other business and labor settings

Educational Requirements:  

• BA/BS degree required; advanced degree preferred.
