Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County (NLSLA) has been a leader in disaster legal assistance for over 25 years. Most recently, NLSLA provided legal assistance to low-income 2017, 2018 and 2019 Wildfire survivors in Los Angeles County. This position will play a key role in administering the multi-varied technological components of our disaster legal services by both providing legal services for existing disaster survivors and preparing NLSLA’s response to future disasters. This position will assist the Director of Legal Technology at each stage in planning and implementing the technology needed to meet the technological needs of NLSLA’s disaster work.

Position: Disaster Technological Coordinator – (Temp)

Availability: Open Immediately. Position is guaranteed through 12/31/2020 with possibility of extension

Compensation: $50,000 depending on experience. Excellent Benefits which include: choice of medical, dental, vision; life and disability insurance plans; 125 plan; loan reimbursement, bilingual pay supplement, sick and vacation pay, and 13 employer-paid holidays.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist Director of Legal Technology in coordinating the various technological components of NLSLA’s disaster work.

• Assist with all aspects of implementation of NLSLA’s new cloud-based phone system. This includes, but is not limited to: identifying and implementing necessary phone system features, set-up of the system on all NLSLA devices, and staff training on how to use the phone system, including preparation of training materials for staff and volunteers, providing group presentations and providing support after launch.

• Coordinate purchase, tracking, maintenance and distribution of mobile legal office equipment, including during a disaster.

• Training staff in the use of mobile legal office equipment, including laptops, mobile devices, hotspots, satellite phones and solar powered charging stations.

• Assist with disaster-related enhancements on NLSLA’s case management system, Legal Server.

Organizational Relationships

Reports to Director of Legal Technology and also takes direction from the Disaster Legal Services Pro Bono Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree is required. Experience or education in computer science, information technology or related field preferred, but not required.

•  Experience with computer hardware and software support, and peripheral devices such as copiers, printers, tablets and cell phones.

• Experience providing trainings and preparing training materials related to technologies preferred.

• Experience working with implementation and maintenance of cloud-based phone systems preferred.

•  Must have excellent communication skills (oral and written).

•  Requires great attention to detail, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and ability to work well under pressure and in limited time frames.

•   Must have an excellent work ethic, be an initiator, and be diplomatic.

NLSLA is one of Los Angeles County's leading public interest law offices and has been the primary legal aid program serving the cities of Burbank and Glendale and the San Fernando and Antelope Valleys for more than 50 years and the city of Pasadena and San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys since 2001. The NLSLA staff of 135+, including 55 lawyers, provides legal assistance to low-income individuals, families and groups in the areas of family law and domestic violence, housing, health care, education, public benefits, economic and job development, immigrant rights, consumer rights and environmental justice. The NLSLA headquarters is located in Glendale, CA with branch offices in Pacoima, El Monte and Boyle Heights.
