Project Invent (projectinvent.org) is a national nonprofit empowering high school students across the country to invent technologies for social impact. We train teachers in design thinking, engineering, and entrepreneurship to lead students through identifying real problems in their communities and inventing impactful solutions. At the end of the year, students pitch their inventions to investors and tech leaders at our Demo Day events. Since 2018, we've grown from one school to 50 schools across the country.

Working directly with the Executive Director, our Deputy Director will have both internal and external facing responsibilities: designing and executing new initiatives, managing external communications, creating internal reports for the board, and managing our growing team. This is a generalist role for a dynamic, creative individual who is passionate about the Project Invent mission. It is perfect for a rising star who is interested in getting first-hand exposure to and building a career in social sector executive leadership. The ideal Deputy Director is excited about being part of a high-growth nonprofit and working on strategic goals to make innovative education programs accessible to all.

We prefer candidates located in the San Francisco Bay Area, but are open to people in other locations if it is the right fit.

  • Proven experience in data analysis with tools like Excel.

Roles & Responsibilities…

  • (25%) Team Management: Work with the Executive Director to manage the team and ensure goals are met for the program, fundraising, and operations of the organization.
  • (25%) Data & Reporting: Build internal processes for tracking the “organization’s pulse” and external processes for reporting program impact & operations; maintain reports for annual filings; generate monthly board updates and the annual report; manage and track the finances of the organization; prepare decks for board and donor meetings.
  • (25%) Special Initiatives: Work with the Executive Director to scope and manage new initiatives such as new corporate engagements, Demo Day X, impact measurement, and advisory committees.
  • (25%) Strategy & Goal Setting: Work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to set strategic priorities, build execution plans, and track performance for all aspects of the organization.
