Position Summary:


The Information Technology (IT) Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the computer and security systems and network infrastructure at Irvine Nature Center. These responsibilities include; maintaining the compatibility of systems and software, solving and debugging problems reported by users and by automated network monitoring systems, suggesting system upgrades to cope up with the evolving demands of the business and maintaining network and system security. The IT coordinator works closely with all the departments of the Nature Center. This is a part-time position and reports to the Deputy Director.


Position Responsibilities:


Building Security

·        Interface with the security vendors for repair, maintenance changes

·        Respond to security alarms as required

·        Maintain the weekly door opening/closing schedule as provided by the Office Manager

·        Issue building keys with appropriate access to new employees, volunteers and interns and maintain records

·        Install and maintain security cameras and the associated monitoring software


Multimedia

·        Interface with the vendor (currently Dantech, INC.)

·        Maintain the multimedia hardware in the various meeting rooms and classrooms

·        Provide support for events that might require one-time or custom technology, e.g., Pumpkins on the Green wireless auction

·        Maintain the computer-based hardware in the various exhibit hall kiosks


Phone System

·        Interface with the hardware vendor and service providers (currently QCC, TELTEK and Verizon)

·        Assign extensions to staff, re-route phones and wiring as necessary

·        Administer the voice mail system

·        Assist the Office Manager with the messaging menus

·        Keep abreast of technology changes to plan for future system upgrades


Computer Systems

·        Install and administer any files, applications and print servers required for the Center’s mission.

·        Have a documented disaster recovery plan for all the IT systems, including physical protection of equipment, prevention of unauthorized access, adequate backups, etc.

·        Maintain all the personal computer workstations, to include procurement, installation, upgrades and staff training, as necessary

·        Maintain on-premise servers, backup devices and battery backups in the server room to include procurement, installation, upgrades and repairs

·        Provide basic orientation for new staff regarding personal computing policies, security and remote access methods

·        Secure all the workstations with effective antivirus software and ensure that it is kept current

·        As required, adapt or develop applications for special business needs


Network Infrastructure

·        Interface with all the appropriate vendors for maintenance, problem resolution and system upgrades

·        Ensure that contact information for the vendors is kept current and accessible

·        Administer network management software to assess system health and keep track of assets

·        Maintain the cable plant

·        Provide for network security by selecting, procuring, maintaining and upgrading a robust, industry-standard firewall

·        Insure there is sufficient capacity, both wired and wireless, for current and future needs

·        Ensure that there is a secure and reliable remote access solution for staff to support the Center’s mission

·        Note: the hosting and administration of the Irvine website is not within the scope of the IT coordinator’s duties


Other

·        Be on call 24 x 7 to respond to IT emergencies

·        Maintain complete and current documentation on all of the above systems

·        Meet with the Deputy Director at least monthly to assess current and future technology needs

·        Work with the Deputy Director and the Director of Finance to plan the IT budget.

·        Ensure that purchases stay within the current budget

·        Communicate any major changes, upgrades or planned outages to staff


Qualifications Needed:

·        Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience related to Information Technology

·        Service orientation

·        Experience with the software and hardware involved in the five main job categories, especially:

o  Windows 10

o  Windows Server 2019 and later

o  Active Directory and Group Policy

o  Microsoft 365 hybrid administration

o  Hyper-V virtualization

·        Good writing and communication skills

·        Commitment to environmental issues, including placing a priority on energy savings, recycling and using green components wherever possible.
